Job Description Summary

The Dean's Office within the A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park has an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Coordinator. The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for the accurate and timely processing/monitoring of payroll appointments and benefits for units within Engineering for tenure/tenure-track faculty, professional track faculty, lecturers, staff, graduate assistants, and student workers. Responsibilities assigned to this position include, but are not limited to administering bi-weekly payroll for engineering units; coordinating the on-boarding, off-boarding, and benefits processes for unit employees; running routine employee and appointment reports to continuously monitor activities and address ad-hoc requests; maintaining accurate personnel records while adhering to all University, State, and Federal regulations and record retention policies; establishing working relationships with payroll and human resource departments on campus; and providing strong customer service to employees by answering their questions and resolving any concerns.

Physical Demands: Office environment setting with majority of time spent working at a computer. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Repetitive motions, which include substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Required close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing computer terminals, extensive reading. Light lifting of materials and supplies, less than 10 lbs. Ability to move about campus to attend meetings/events.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: One (1) year of professional payroll experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable payroll related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Knowledge of payroll functions.Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.Ability to analyze situations and determine the best recourse for response.
