Job Description:

Position Salary:$66,200.00 - $83,460.00; depending on experience 

Essential Duties:
Executes on defined projects, projects, and services to achieve team-level goals by designing, building, and maintaining enterprise solutions across business critical IT systems with an internal open source, automation-first approach. Supports other engineers in their mission to deliver highly available and reliable services to the University.

  • Participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation (including weekends and holidays as needed, as well as covering maintenance windows after hours) within the flexibility of a team
  • Creates and maintains documentation on processes, policies, application configuration and related materials
  • Participates in technical and collaboration meetings
  • Works with other ET chapters to ensure org health and security of the platform
  • Keeps up-to-date with new platform features and functionality
  • Adheres to, participates in and implements technical governance set forth by platform teams
  • Manages and monitors all installed systems and infrastructure
  • Installs, configures, tests and maintains operating systems, application software and system management tools
  • Monitors and tests application performance for potential bottlenecks, identifies possible solutions, and works with developers to implement those fixes
  • Maintains security, backup, and redundancy strategies
  • Writes and maintains custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
  • Participates in the operational support systems
  • Provides 2nd- and 3rd-level support
  • Liaises with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit's efficiency and overall performance.
  • Take responsibility for fostering a positive culture, upholding organizational values, and championing engagement in all its forms.
  • Collaborate across teams and actively participate in ET/ASU events and programs.

  • Understanding of virtual machine/hypervisor/container technologies (Nutanix AHV, VMWare, Xen, AHV, Docker, Podman, LXD)
  • Experience with Linux and/or Windows OS, including patch management and system maintenance
  • Demonstrable scripting skills (i.e., Bash/Ksh, Powershell, Perl, Python, Ruby)
  • Experience with storage technologies including block and object storage solutions (EBS, EFS, S3, GCS, CIFS/SMB, NFS/AFS)
  • Familiarity with physical and cloud network concepts and principles (i.e., OSI model, TCP/UDP/ICMP, VRFs, VLANs, VPCs, Security Groups, routing, NLB/ALB/ELB, NGFW, WAF, Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, RNAT/SNAT, Zero Trust, etc.)
  • Experience with network services (i.e., NTP, DNS, DHCP, LDAP)
  • Familiarity with secure secrets management using Hashicorp Vault and AWS Secrets Manager
  • Demonstrated ability to model empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.

Working Environment:
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Flexible work options may be available after successfully completing the initial 90-day training period.
  • Hybrid work is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or vice president-level approval is required.
