Principal Product Manager Full Description

Principal Product Manager

Job Overview:
Product Managers (also known as Business Product Managers, or BPMs) at Learning A-Z are responsible for the overall market success of the products they manage—driving revenue, ensuring customer satisfaction, and delivering meaningful learning outcomes for students.

We’re hiring a Principal Product Manager to drive a strategic new product initiative that expands Learning A-Z’s portfolio. In this role, you’ll own product strategy and execution, partner cross-functionally to deliver high-quality experiences, and serve as the internal champion for the product. You’ll collaborate closely with Technical Product Managers, Product Marketing, Learning Design, and Engineering to guide both product development and go-to-market execution.

In your first 6 months, you will run research and discovery work for a new product offering—synthesizing market insights, conducting customer research, defining opportunity spaces, and shaping the initial strategy and roadmap.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Own the end-to-end success of a product domain, including business performance, customer outcomes, and user experience.
  • Lead research and discovery for new product investments —identify unmet needs, conduct qualitative and quantitative research, and synthesize insights into clear opportunity areas. This includes monitoring market trends and competitive activity, as well as relevant legislation, academic research, and customer feedback.
  • Shape the product vision and strategy, grounded in user needs, business goals, and market realities.
  • Partner with TPMs to define and prioritize the product roadmap and related requirements. Oversee roadmap execution and ensure consistent delivery.
  • Collaborate on educational design with curriculum and content teams to ensure the product reflects strong pedagogy and supports learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing and Sales Enablement to support go-to-market planning and execution—contributing to messaging, training materials, launch readiness, and pricing strategy, while ensuring product decisions stay aligned with business goals.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment around the product vision by influencing stakeholders at all levels—ensuring decisions stay grounded in user needs, business goals, and a clear strategic direction.
  • Define and track success metrics, including usage, satisfaction, and impact on learning outcomes.
  • Drive strategic alignment by authoring high-impact documents—such as business cases, project proposals, and investment recommendations—that shape decisions, secure stakeholder buy-in, and move initiatives forward across teams and leadership levels.
  • Mentor others and model strong product practices—instilling habits of thought and action that elevate product thinking, sharpen decision quality, and amplify strategic impact across the team and organization.

Job Requirements:
  • 8+ years (Principal PM) of product management or equivalent strategic product ownership experience.
  • Demonstrated success owning customer-centric products through the full product lifecycle—from discovery to delivery to iteration.
  • Proven experience in EdTech, specifically in curriculum or instructional solutions, with a deep understanding of the education market, customer challenges, and the policy landscape. Literacy product experience is a strong plus.
  • Comfort navigating cross-functional environments and working with technical, creative, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience with and openness to innovating with AI to support product discovery and delivery.
  • Proven ability to identify, gather, analyze, and synthesize both qualitative and quantitative data into decisions.
  • Advanced communication and storytelling skills—tailoring messaging for executive, educator, and technical audiences.
  • Strategic thinker with an eye toward execution, outcomes, and continuous learning.

Bonus Points For:
  • Background in instructional design, curriculum development, or teaching.
  • Familiarity with platform architecture or working in a dual-track agile setup with TPMs.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, M.Ed., etc.) or relevant certifications.
