Product Lead - REMOTE
Join the Product Development team as a new Product Lead!
The Opportunity
BARBRI is building the future of legal education through AI-assisted, outcome-driven digital experiences. As we evolve our product portfolio around an AI-native operating model, we're looking for product leaders who bring clarity, conviction, and craft to the work.
As a Product Lead, you'll be the center of a cross-functional quartet team, working alongside a Product Designer, Lead Engineer, and Embedded Subject Matter Expert, to define and deliver experiences that genuinely move learning outcomes. You'll own a product domain end to end: from idea through release and ongoing evolution. At the core of that ownership is a deep, almost restless curiosity about your users. You will spend meaningful time with students, customers, and internal stakeholders, listening, testing, watching, and iterating. You will know your users well enough to advocate for what they need before they ask for it, and to recognize when what you built is not quite right yet. The best Product Leads here are not people who ship and move on. They are people who care enough to go back.
This is not a project management role. It's not a feature factory role. The Product Lead at BARBRI is the person in the room who knows what the team is trying to accomplish and keeps everyone pointed at it, including when that means saying no, changing course, or naming a hard truth.
This role requires genuine AI tool fluency. You'll be expected to demonstrate, not just describe, how AI-assisted workflows change what you produce and how fast you produce it. If you're curious about tools like Claude Code and Codex but haven't yet made them part of your daily practice, this isn't the right fit.
This role is not stepping into a mature, well‑defined process—it’s helping build it. As our Product Lead, you’ll help define and pilot the product playbook that will ultimately scale across the product and engineering organization, quickly testing what works (and what doesn’t) in a fast‑moving AI environment. AI is evolving rapidly, and this role will evolve with it; comfort with ambiguity isn’t a nice‑to‑have—it’s the job. We’re looking for a curious, creative, and flexible thinker who’s excited to shape how product work gets done. You won’t be doing this alone: you’ll partner closely with a Principal Engineer and Head of AI on complex decisions, work alongside a Program Manager to keep execution moving, and have an SVP of Product in your corner for coaching, alignment, and escalation. The goal isn’t to know everything—it’s to know what you don’t know and bring in the right people at the right time.
What You'll Do
- Know your users. Spend meaningful time with students, customers, and internal users to deeply understand their problems, behaviors, and unmet needs. This is ongoing, not a one-time research sprint.
- Own prioritization. Evaluate opportunities against business value and user impact, collaborate with your quartet to score and sequence ideas, and make the final call on what the team pursues.
- Lead research. Recruit participants, facilitate sessions, synthesize findings, and make sure what you learn actually changes what gets built. User research is not a box to check here.
- Frame the work. Define the business case and scope for each initiative before anyone starts building, working with your quartet to align on the problem and why it matters now.
- Define what ships. Translate scope and user research into a requirements document that is specific enough to resolve disputes about what is in and what is out when priorities are challenged.
- Stay close to the build. Engage directly with prototypes as they develop, reacting alongside your designer and engineer rather than reviewing at checkpoints.
- Keep stakeholders in the loop. Run regular demos with working software, turning in-progress builds into alignment and feedback rather than waiting for launch to find out if the direction was right.
- Ship and learn. Own the go/no-go decision at release, monitor post-release performance, and feed what you learn back into the next round of prioritization.
- Think beyond the feature. Ensure every initiative is designed to generate useful data, not just ship functionality, and contribute to a growing product data asset that compounds over time.
- Communicate with clarity. Write decisions and rationale clearly so teammates, stakeholders, and leadership are never surprised by where things stand.
Who You Are
A decision-maker, not a consensus-seeker.
You make good calls with incomplete information. You know when to dig deeper and when to move. When it's time to decide, you decide. And you own the outcome.
Genuinely curious about users.
You understand the difference between what people ask for and what they actually need, and you're not afraid to act on that distinction. You seek out evidence rather than assuming you already know.
AI-fluent and getting more so.
You use AI-assisted tools in your daily workflow today and can speak concretely about how they've changed what you produce. You understand how AI shifts what's buildable, at what cost, and what that means for how you prioritize.
Data-aware by instinct.
You think about what every initiative generates beyond the feature itself. You ask the data question before anything gets built, not after it ships.
A natural collaborator.
You do your best work inside small, high-ownership cross-functional teams. You bring people into problem framing rather than handing them a spec, and you know how to make collaboration with engineers, designers, and domain experts genuinely productive.
Calm, clear, and adaptable.
This environment moves fast and not everything will go as planned. You stay grounded, maintain perspective, and adjust without drama. You're energized by ambiguity, not slowed down by it.
