About the role...
This role is a critical part of our growth efforts. You’ll write the words that motivate our learners to keep up their daily habit, and you’ll explore messaging and tones of voice that strike a chord with our audience. As a writer, you’ll join a culture of creativity and craft, where we have a high bar for excellence and an endless curiosity about how to bring more unexpected quirk and fun to the pursuit of learning.
 
🧠  You will...
  • Write copy that encourages learning and keeping up a daily habit
  • Flex the Duolingo voice in copy across the Duolingo app and related surfaces
  • Write our (in)famous push notifications
  • Come up with new messaging angles to test
  • Write in the voice of our characters, from Lily to Falstaff
  • Partner with product designers and product managers on new product interactions based on data and insights
  • Focus on a few projects at a time and drive them to completion
  • Support experiments and share insights so product wins can have a greater impact
  • Work with our localization team to ensure A+ translation
  • Report to the Director of Product Writing. We sit within the Design department, the instrumental creative partner in most projects at Duolingo
 
✅  You have...
  • A portfolio with compelling UX writing examples for a consumer app
  • 3+ years of experience in both UX writing and consumer copywriting, including push notifications and emails 
  • A gift for expressing complicated things in plain language
  • A creative turn of phrase that helps you write about the same thing several ways
  • An ability to turn around revisions quickly
  • A desire to write all day, every day
  • The ability to work from or relocate to Pittsburgh, PA or New York City

We post a multi-level salary range for all of our roles.
This is not inclusive of the rest of our awesome portfolio that includes equity compensation and world-class benefits. Our salary ranges are the same for all US locations. The actual salary within the range is determined by many factors including but not limited to, skills, experience, education, and internal equity.

Salary Range: 
$135,200—$182,900 USD
