Overview of CommonLit
CommonLit is a nonprofit education technology organization dedicated to ensuring that all students, especially students in Title I schools, graduate with the reading, writing, communication, and problem-solving skills they need to be successful in college and beyond. We envision a world where all students get the opportunity to have a world class education. We operate an online reading program for grades 3-12, www.CommonLit.org, that is used by teachers in over 90,000 American schools.

The Opportunity
CommonLit’s Professional Development team is responsible for designing professional learning experiences for our customer schools and districts. Professional Development Specialists have a deep understanding of content, pedagogy and adult learning theory.  They also possess a deep empathy for and understanding of a teachers’ and instructional leaders’ workflow and responsibilities. They leverage this knowledge and experience to ensure CommonLit Professional Development experiences are impactful for leaders and teachers and add value for customer schools. Professional Development Specialists are responsible for training facilitators on CommonLit PD and leading customer-facing sessions as needed.

Roles and Responsibilities
PD Facilitation & Training
-Develop and maintain a deep understanding of CommonLit’s digital literacy program, instructional approach, and professional learning offerings
-Create and lead trainings for Professional Development facilitators across teams to ensure effective implementation of CommonLit’s live professional development
-Observe live PD sessions and provide timely, actionable feedback and coaching to contract facilitators
-Lead professional development with partners as needed, including traveling to lead on-site at schools, up to 20 days per calendar year
-Improve and execute systems to ensure smooth operations of PD facilitation coordination

Cross-Team Collaboration & Strategic Contribution
-Collaborate with Sales and District Success teams to understand the needs of schools and districts
-Contribute to the ideation of new products and learning experiences that support CommonLit’s mission, vision, and strategy.
-Contribute to the knowledge management, systems, and operations of the Professional Development team
-Contribute to larger department and organization strategy, supporting other teams with projects as needed

Qualifications
-Required: A measurable impact on student success as a teacher and/or instructional leader
-Required: Exceptional ELA/literacy content knowledge and an understanding of how adults learn
-Required: A track record of successful facilitation of professional development for teachers
-Required: Experience working with underserved communities
-Strongly Preferred: Experience as an instructional coach
-Strong entrepreneurial spirit and eagerness to work in a fast-paced environment
-Strategic thinker, self-starter, with strong time management skills
-Strong attention to detail, the ability to balance several complex workstreams, and a desire for feedback

Physical & Additional Requirements
-This role involves prolonged periods in a stationary position at a desk and working on a computer
-This role involves traveling to lead on-site professional development at schools, up to 20 days per calendar year

Salary and Benefits
Salary: $80,000-$100,000 per year
