Description of Work
The William H. Thompson Scholars (WHT) Learning Community provides academic and life skills support to recipients of the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation Scholarship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Offering a sequence of common courses, activities, and advising, scholars are given an opportunity to connect closely with staff, faculty, and peers.

WHT is an energetic and student success focused environment, with Program Coordinators primarily focusing on providing support through individualized meetings with program scholars throughout the academic year. Working collaboratively with program staff to uphold the mission and core values of the WHT program, a Program Coordinator utilizes a holistic approach to support scholars in academics, personal wellness, professional growth, and social development. Program Coordinators oversee individualized academic probation programming, connecting closely with at-risk scholars. Staff are responsible for teaching several sections of a first-year seminar course during the fall term and assist with the training and supervision of a peer mentor team. Development of essential programmatic elements including workshops (academic, diversity and inclusion, life skills, social, and community service), and seminar curriculum is expected.

In addition to student support duties, Program Coordinators are assigned leadership responsibilities in areas such as: community service, mental health and wellness, social engagement, event planning, housing, transfer students, study cafe, tutors, and study abroad.
Peer mentors have mobile accessibility outside of the normal working hours and community programming needs often require regular night and weekend obligations.
