herePosition Summary:The Program Specialist, Learning Support Services, will assist with the coordination of Learning Support Services.
Responsibilities include: providing supportive services to students with disabilities, who require special assistance to
successfully complete occupational and educational programs, providing training and guidance to new Program
Specialists, overseeing external service providers and monitoring costs. Serves as back-up to the LSS Assistive
Technology Specialist.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Provide shared support to 600+ students on an as needed basis such as: academic advising, arranging,
coordinating and monitoring classroom accommodations, and inputting student data.
Review medical and psychological documentation to make decisions about student eligibility for services.
Assist faculty with implementation of approved accommodations.
Certify students with disabilities for eligibility in special access programs, e.g. Recordings for the Blind and
Dyslexic, Access Text Network, etc.
Provide support and advising, if needed, to students for their academic programs, educational and occupational
goals.
Assist part-time Program Specialists in setting up accommodations.
Conduct thorough and accurate assessment of disability conditions for accommodations.
Document activities/services per each appointment for students. Maintain thorough, accurate, timely and detailed
case recording.
Provide information to Director to set up contracted services (hours/days) with outside vendors for each semester
and each budget.
Document activities for special population students.
Set up, monitor, review, adjust and finalize all invoices with outside vendors (interpreter, CART services) for
assigned students.
Maintain a written educational development plan and Document activities for special population students.
Assist the Director of LSS with:
o Hiring staff (note takers, PT Program Specialists and clerical staff)
o Providing statistical reports as requested by Director
o Federal grant funding final report (Perkins).
o Training Program Specialists
o Organize promotional activities and staff/faculty training
Manage and coordinate activities with outside community programs and schools using the WCC campus.
Present information to faculty and staff about LSS services, legal responsibilities in providing accommodations and
LSS procedures, e.g. faculty in-service, PT Faculty Orientation, Departmental and Divisional meetings, etc.
Liaison with Michigan Rehabilitation Services, the Learning Disability Association of Ann Arbor, local high schools.
Collaborate on special projects for staff development and student retention, i.e. LSS open house, presentations to
high school students on/off campus, etc.
Conduct information sessions and Departmental tours for special population students.
Provide information to Director to review Departmental services for meeting demand and staffing needs.
Make presentations to community organizations on behalf of Learning Support Services, e.g. Washtenaw Literacy
In absence of Director, address complaints and resolve problems.
Provide assistance to LSS Office Coordinator and PT clerical staff in Note taking assignments, interpreters, etc.
Provide Director with feedback on program activities.
Review LSS procedures and forms and recommend any needed form or system changes to Director.
Work with LSS Assistive Technology Specialist and act as back-up, as needed, to ensure assistive technology is
provided to students, including alternate book formats and auxiliary equipment loan to students

Serve as back-up in the LSS Testing Center; proctor exams and interact with faculty regarding exams.
Maintain professional development related to disability for individual and institutional needs
Perform administrative tasks to meet Departmental objectives, including compiling data and tracking for monthly
Departmental reports
Other Duties: Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree
Equivalent of two (2) years full-time experience working with students with disabilities.
Knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to persons with disabilities.
Demonstrated experience and skill in arranging academic support and tutorial services for students.
Working knowledge of basic assistive technology equipment and programs.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills to work effectively with various groups.
Demonstrated computer knowledge and experience using database and spreadsheet applications.
Experience working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications: Additional Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Occupational Therapy, Special Education, Social Work,
Student Affairs or Higher Education Administration.
Previous experience at the community college level.
Experience working in a higher education disability services case management system (i.e. Accommodate or AIM)
Experience working with special populations of students/adults including autism spectrum disorder and mental illness.
