Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, P&HCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick & Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.

Purpose of Position:
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), is a federally funded TRIO program, designed to increase the success rates of students, enhance the transfer rate of students, and foster an institutional climate supportive of success for low income and first generation college students as well as individuals with disabilities. This program serves 230 students at Patrick & Henry Community College. The Student Support Services (SSS) Director is a grant-funded position responsible for the oversight and direction of the SSS program, in accordance with the federal guidelines and regulations determined by the U.S. Department of Education. This role is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating services that support the success, retention, and graduation of students from various backgrounds. The Director fosters a culture of student success through program development, collaborative partnerships, budget management, and strategic leadership. As a grant-funded position, it is contingent on availability of grant funds.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides administrative leadership, direction, and day-to-day coordination for all aspects of the TRIO Student Support Services program and ensures compliance with federal regulations, grant requirements and P&HCC policies and procedures. Hire, train, and supervise all project personnel and provide ongoing and annual evaluation of program staff. Develops, implements, and assesses programs and services to support first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities. Develop, implement, monitor and revise the program budget in accordance with federal, state and college guidelines. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by planning and accounting for all program expenditures, and preparing all federal proposals, narratives and fiscal reports. Establish, monitor and evaluate Student Support Services program goals and objectives and guide efforts of all staff in achieving goals and objectives. Ensures program compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies. Corresponds in a timely manner with the designated Program Officer through the U.S. Department of Education. Prepares and ensures accuracy and submits annual performance reports (APR) and other required data to the U.S. Department of Education and the college. Reviews and evaluates program documentation, maintains accurate records, and ensures confidentiality. Maintain student caseload of SSS program participants offering academic advising, developing. Attend state, regional and national conferences and training regarding Student Support Services programs. Coordinates grant writing activities and supports additional funding efforts. Serves as a visible leader and resource for institutional initiatives related to student access, persistence, and success. Stays informed of national best practices, emerging trends, and policy changes affecting TRIO Student Support Services. Other job-related duties as assigned.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, or related area. Demonstrated organizational, leadership and supervision skills. Prior experience in supervisory position(s) Previous grant experience in program administration and fiscal management; in preparing reports and analyzing data. Prior experience in academic advising, counseling, or case management of disadvantaged populations with a focus on retention and success in higher education. Prior experience in student services, design of programs, or related area. Knowledge of career development, academic advising, and student development models.
