Project Manager for Water Sector Digitalization and Decarbonization

 

Overview
Princeton University’s Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seek a detail‑oriented Project Manager for water environment sector digitalization and decarbonization projects. The individual will oversee research projects that gather operational, policy, and performance data from water and wastewater utilities and other partners, use models to guide the development of decision‑support tools, and support the principal investigators with report preparation and other essential project tasks.

 

The position can be 50-100% duty time. The rank and salary of this appointment will be based on education and experience. 

 

The term is one year with possibility of renewal pending continued funding. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University. This position is subject to the University's background check policy.

Responsibilities

:

  1. Stakeholder & Team Leadership
  • Serve as primary liaison with utilities, regulators, and industry collaborators
  • Facilitate data‑sharing agreements and secure required operational and policy datasets
  • Coordinate project meetings; prepare agendas and action summaries
  • Deliver clear, timely updates through presentations, reports, and dashboards
  • Mentor graduate researchers and interns; assign tasks and review deliverables
  1. Data Coordination & Tool Development
  • Guide the collection, validation, and organization of heterogeneous data for water and wastewater utilities
  • Develop methods for evaluating the quality of the data sets
  • Oversee collaboration with researchers to produce user‑friendly decision‑support tools
  1. Project & Proposal Management 
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and milestone trackers
  • Assist the PI in drafting reports, proposals, and supporting documents
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as requested by the PI to ensure seamless project operations

Qualifications

:

Essential

  • MS or higher in Environmental/Civil Engineering or related field
  • Experience with basic modeling and data science tools (e.g., Python, Biowin, ArcGIS, Machine Learning, LLMs, etc.)
  • Minimum 5 years managing projects in the water & wastewater sector (consulting, utilities, government, or non‑profit)
  • Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and deliver complex initiatives
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

 

Preferred

  • PMP certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
  • Familiarity with Energy Auditing, GHG Inventory, NPDES permitting, and sustainability frameworks
