We are responsible for the delivery of nearly 4 million examination results per annum, including A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and T-levels for students in UK and International centres. Our in-house systems process every learner from registration to marking and certification, in a highly regulated business. We currently operate a hybrid estate of predominantly bespoke systems, with an ongoing strategic transformation programme to migrate from on-prem to cloud based, cost effective, scalable and resilient services.

Job Description:

The position is for a highly skilled Specialist, Quality Assurance Engineer with deep experience in .NET technologies to join a cutting-edge AI transformation project . This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions built on cloud-native platforms (AWS and/or Azure) . Individuals in the Quality Assurance Engineers role ensure software products meet quality standards by designing and executing test plans to identify defects. They collaborate closely with development teams to resolve issues, thereby enhancing the reliability and performance of the software. They maintain product integrity through rigorous testing and quality control practices. They work to improve testing processes to optimize efficiency and ensure alignment with overall project goals.

About you

We'd expect you to work closely with cross-functional teams including AI/ML engineers, cloud architects, and product managers to validate intelligent systems that drive innovation and operational excellence in an Agile project delivery environment using Scrum or Kanban.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and execute comprehensive automated and manual test plans ensuring products meet rigorous quality standards and critical requirements are thoroughly verified.

  • Collaborate closely with development, AI, and business analysis/Product Owners teams to define quality standards, acceptance criteria, estimations, and test strategies enhancing software reliability and performance.

  • Implement, maintain, and optimise CI/CD pipelines with automated testing frameworks, driving continuous improvement in testing processes, efficiency, and alignment with overall project objectives.

  • Working with Developers to utilise testing methodologies like TDD / BDD in Cloud / Hybrid environment

  • Lead integration testing across cloud platforms (such as AWS and Azure), APIs, and microservices, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.

  • Carry out security testing for security vulnerability fixes to ensure more secure deliveries to production

  • Improve automation test coverage

  • Independently manage and resolve escalated or complex testing cases, applying strong analytical and investigative skills while providing detailed analysis, feedback, and accurate reporting of results.

  • Participate actively in sprint planning, backlog grooming, code reviews, and retrospectives, advocating for a quality-first approach and offering process or tool improvement suggestions.

  • Monitor, document, and report on test results, defects, and quality metrics using tools such as Azure DevOps or JIRA, ensuring complete defect follow-through and transparency.

  • Mentor and support junior QA engineers, promoting best practices in software testing, quality assurance, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience in software QA , with strong proficiency in automation and testing the application written in Java/.net languages.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), including testing cloud-native applications.

  • Solid understanding of AI/ML systems , data pipelines, and model validation techniques.

  • Expertise in test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, NUnit, xUnit, playwright, TestNG/Cucumber).

  • Experience with API testing (Postman, Testfully Rest Assured)

  • Experience with accessibility and browser compatibility testing

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices , CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Proficiency in SQL for writing complex queries, joins, and stored procedures to validate backend data.

  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in AI model testing , bias detection, and explainability validation.

  • Certifications in AWS/Azure , ISTQB, or equivalent.

  • Providing support to Performance and Security testing teams

  • Application of stringent Definition of Done (DoD) on moving stories to Done in JIRA

  • Experience with Jenkins and Maven

  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

  • Shift Left Testing
