I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary:
This senior-level position provides comprehensive support for research programs, including pre-award and post-award management. It makes policy and procedural recommendations with authority to implement changes, maintains fiscal responsibility by managing budgets and compliance timelines, and engages with GW stakeholders to ensure operational efficiency. Serving as the primary liaison to investigators, the Research Program Manager, SMHS position oversees day-to-day operations and contributes directly to grant administration to support research success.

Responsibilities include:
  • Communicate daily with lead principal investigators and lab manager to ensure effective coordination of projects, budgets, and laboratory operations.
  • Collaborate with laboratory faculty and staff to identify appropriate funding sources for purchases, allocate expenditures to the correct scientific projects, and support budget tracking efforts.
  • Financial management, document management, and proposal management for grants.
  • Presentation, budgeting, expense management, and other general research adjacent duties.
  • Partner with international stakeholders to establish research agreements and facilitate the acquisition of CDC permits for the international shipment of live viruses and other biological samples, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Work internally with contract management and document management for intellectual property filings within the University system.
  • Screen and match candidates for research and staff appointments, coordinate interviews, and support hiring managers throughout the recruitment process in compliance with university policies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for temporary staffing agencies, coordinating job requirements, contracts, compensation, hiring activities, and ongoing employee administration.
  • Review and approve employee timecards to ensure accuracy and adherence to university policies and labor requirements.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
