Research Staff Assistant Full Description

Salary Range: 41,000-41,000
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 
Position Summary
The IMPression in ACTion Lab (aka, the IMPACT Lab) at Columbia University, directed by Dr. Chujun Lin, conducts research into how people form impressions of others via both dubious shortcuts (e.g., images, short videos) and meaningful signals (e.g., dyadic interactions), and how these impressions influence consequential behavior in dynamic real-world interactions and decisions in politics, law, and science.

The lab is considering applications for a full-time Research Staff Assistant position starting in Summer/Fall 2025. The incumbent will work closely with Dr. Chujun Lin and support several programs of research in the lab investigating person perception in naturalistic contexts. The lab uses a variety of techniques, including online experiments, in-person interactions, cross-cultural designs, and computational modeling.

The lab is looking for applicants who have a passion for naturalistic person perception research (research staff are encouraged to read papers in the field of person perception and social cognition) and who are curious, energetic, conscientious, with a strong willingness to tackle novel and challenging tasks. Experience in computational modeling, audio/video/physiological data processing, statistical analysis, web development, or/and other skills that you think would be fun to apply to naturalistic person perception research is preferred. 

Responsibilities
  • Assist with programming online and in-person behavioral experiment tasks.
  • Coordinate in-person behavioral experiments, in particular, handling devices and real-time multimodal recordings.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and proposals, correspondence, data entry, and library research.
  • Perform administrative duties related to research (e.g., Grant preparation, ordering supplies, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 0-3 months of experience in a research environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Computer Science, or other related fields
