Job Description 
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

This position will assist in the review of and execution of policies and procedures relating to revenue and financial reporting. Performs the monthly reconciliation of accounting system to CARS/CARDINAL, reviews the quarterly accounts receivable report, and prepares various year-end financial statements and supporting schedules. Oversees monthly Auxiliary Revenue entries in AIS and student collection payments in SIS/WES. Prepares and coordinates the preparation of financial reports for fluctuation analysis and oversees the completion and submission of the Accounts Receivable report. Provides oversight of banking and collections contracts.

This position coordinates with staff in the functional areas of financial reporting, revenue, cash management, student financial services which includes accounts receivable and financial aid accounting, and complex accounting system reconciliation.

This position will require a credit check in addition to background and reference checks.
Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles promulgated by the AICPA, FASB, GAO, and GASB. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and utilize sound judgment in making decisions. Demonstrated ability to assemble and analyze data and prepare complex financial statements and reports. Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Demonstrated ability to plan and execute job duties with little supervision. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Progressively responsible experience in financial reporting.

Additional Considerations  | Knowledge of CARDINAL, Virginia Community College System and Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures. Knowledge of People Soft Student and Administrative information systems. Knowledge of Title IV accounting requirements. CPA, CGFM, or CMA. Advanced accounting experience in a government or college setting.
