Rotational Finance Fellow Full Description

Job Description
The Rotational Finance Fellowship within the Vice President for Finance senior management area is a 12-month cross-departmental experiential learning and development opportunity for recent graduates or those new to Higher Education Administration. The Fellow will work in close collaboration with the managers within individual departments, which may include:

• Budget and Financial Planning
• Capital Budgeting and Financing
• Procurement 
• Treasury Services
• University Controller
• Risk Management
• Financial Management
• Finance Information Technology
• Office of the Vice President for Finance

The Fellow will spend an assigned amount of time in rotations with two or three of the Division of Finance departments listed above and have the opportunity to work on specific projects and assignments that will provide the Fellow an excellent understanding of the university’s financial and administrative functions. The Fellow will assist with special project assignments, which vary based on the department’s role within the university. Projects may include the development of benchmark data, business analyses, presentations, reports, position papers, project and event management activities, and more. Fellows may also provide project support on activities such as Board of Visitors materials, financial policies, employee engagement initiatives, communications, strategic planning and reporting, and more. As possible, the Office of the Vice President for Finance will work with the Fellow to establish a schedule of department rotations and projects that align with the Fellow’s interests, strengths, and experiences.

For candidates who hold or will hold a bachelor’s degree by December 31, 2025, the targeted start date is January 2025. For those graduating in May 2026, the targeted start date is in June 2026.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in a business-related discipline or demonstrated interest in a career in a business or higher education environment
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Expressed interest in higher education administration
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Experience with flexing priorities and multi-tasking

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with confidential or sensitive information
• Experience with statistical or data reporting and analysis
• Leadership experience
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing work environments
• Ability to quickly learn university systems, software, and programs such as Banner, HokieMart, or Microstrategy
