We’re looking for a Sales and Solutions Engineer to join our Customer Services and Support (CSS) team, a collaborative group committed to delivering world-class service to school districts and education technology partners across both U.S. and international markets.
As a Sales and Solutions Engineer, you'll be at the intersection of sales, engineering, Product, and Product Marketing teams, leading technical discovery, architecting and pitching Clever products and services during pre-sales, and ensuring smooth execution of custom services during post-sales. You’ll design and implement custom integrations for a wide variety of partners, ranging from large school districts to EdTech vendors, helping them get the most value out of Clever’s platform. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams and play a key role in evolving Clever’s product offerings through direct customer insight and feedback—all in service of our mission to connect every student to a world of learning.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
- Drive Technical Discovery and Deal Acceleration: Partner with sales and customer stakeholders (district IT leaders, EdTech vendors, system integrators) to assess technical needs, design solutions, and accelerate the sales cycle through compelling technical proposals and solution design.
- Deliver High-Impact Demonstrations: Lead live demos, proof-of-concepts, and technical workshops that showcase Clever’s platform and custom service offerings to prospects —including custom rostering, single-sign-on portals, data pipelines, and integrations.
- Familiarity with Sales methodologies and collaboration with Sales: Ask thoughtful and probing questions to uncover customer needs and guide them from current state to the ideal future state. Position and articulate Clever’s technical capabilities in a clear and seamless manner. Partner with Sales teams closely and proactively lead the customer journey to deliver timely support while meeting all timelines. Bring deep experience in applying sales methodologies to drive successful outcomes.
- Lead Implementations: Manage end-to-end onboarding for strategic customers, ensuring smooth deployment and alignment with customer goals. Drive technical project plans, resolve complex issues, and deliver a seamless go-live. Build custom solutions using SQL, scripting, SFTP workflows, and APIs. Leverage expertise in Microsoft Entra, Active Directory, and Google identity/access for secure, effective implementation.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Product Marketing to support customers throughout the pre- and post-sales lifecycle. Act as the voice of the customer by providing actionable feedback to inform product roadmap decisions and prioritization.
- Create Clear and Impactful Documentation: Develop detailed technical documentation, integration guides, statements of work (SOWs), and RFP responses. Translate complex concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Foster In-Person Engagement (~25% Travel): Visit key customers and partners in person for pre-sales meetings, requirements gathering, implementation workshops, and relationship building. Build strong, trust-based relationships with strategic partners and customers. Attend industry events or partner meetings as needed to foster strong relationships with customers and partners.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Customer-facing technical pre-sales experience: 4+ years in a role like Sales Engineer or Solutions Engineer in a customer-facing role – ideally at a SaaS or EdTech company serving K-12 school districts. You should be comfortable at the intersection of product, engineering, and business, working directly with clients (school IT or EdTech vendors) and sales to solve technical challenges.
- Technical Pre-Sales Expertise: Proven success supporting technical pre-sales processes. You know how to run discovery sessions, create demos or prototypes, and translate customer needs into integrated solutions that resonate with K–12 and EdTech audiences.
- Strong technical background: Hands-on programming or scripting ability in at least one scripting language (e.g. Python, Bash, JavaScript), with deep expertise in SQL. Experience building API integrations, managing data imports/exports, and data automations is essential. Familiarity with identity systems (Active Directory and Microsoft Entra) and security best practices is required. Google identity and access expertise is preferred.
- Data and Analytics Expertise: Strong understanding of ETL processes, data modeling, and analytics platforms commonly used in K–12 environments (e.g., Power BI, Tableau). Proficient in working with flat-file and database pipelines, with the ability to clearly explain data flows and reporting structures to both technical and non-technical audiences. Familiarity with LMS integrations and district SIS data is a plus.
- Problem-solving, communication, and collaboration: Skilled at breaking down complex problems and finding practical solutions. A strong communicator, whether writing integration guides, presenting to executives, or working with engineers and product managers. A reliable team player who builds trust through clear communication and responsiveness. Organized, results-driven, and able to manage multiple priorities while ensuring an excellent customer experience.
- Mission-driven: A passion for education and equity is important – you care about helping schools and students succeed through technology. You work well across teams and with diverse stakeholders. The role requires travel (~25%) to meet customers and partners in person. You are professional, curious, and committed to Clever’s mission of connecting every student to a world of learning.
- Commitment to equity and belonging: Clever believes that the classrooms we serve and our company’s halls should be spaces that are diverse, equitable and inclusive. We seek opportunities and celebrate actions that further allow us to build diverse teams, include every voice, and create a safe space for everyone.
