Job Summary/Basic Function | This temporary, part-time Navigational Coach position (December–May 1)
Navigational Coaches provide direct, bilingual support to Ogden School District seniors and their families, helping them complete key steps to enroll at Weber State University, including admissions, FAFSA completion, writing a personal statement, orientation, and connecting families to the Weber State College Navigational Hub located at the Community Education Center. Employment is conditional upon successfully completing the Ogden School District background check.
Key responsibilities
● Build trusting, consistent relationships with students and their parents/guardians to raise awareness of Weber State University services and support a seamless transition from high school to college.
● In partnership with the Ogden School District, assigned personnel (including College and Career Coordinators) support graduating seniors in completing direct admissions requirements, progressing/finishing the FAFSA, and navigating financial aid and scholarship steps (including Scholarship Universe opportunities and personal statements, as applicable).
● In partnership with the Ogden School District, assigned personnel (including College and Career Coordinators) support rising 10th-12th grade students with tuition-free summer bridge program applications.
● Connect students and families to the WSU College Exploration Hub at the Community Education Center (CEC) to help finalize admissions, financial aid, and scholarship processes.
● Refer and connect students/families to additional WSU support services, including the WSU College Exploration Hub, Student Success Center, Financial Aid Office, peer mentoring, and other first-generation student resources.
● Work on-site in assigned high school(s) and coordinate closely with school staff and the Adelante Initiative Coordinator/Specialist to deliver consistent, high-quality services.
● Maintain accurate mentor logs, participation/attendance records, and required documentation to support monthly reporting, program evaluation, and continuous improvement.
● Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications | ● One year of experience working with economically disadvantaged and first-generation students
● Bilingual (Spanish/English) and experience supporting bilingual/first-generation communities
● Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students and families
● Ability to work independently in a school setting and coordinate with a central program team
● Comfort learning and explaining structured processes (applications, forms, deadlines)
Preferred Qualifications | ● Associate’s degree
● Familiarity with admissions, FAFSA, and other student support services.
