Department Summary The UNT Controller's Office is in charge of daily accounting and financial reporting for the UNT campus in Denton. The controller office also oversees capital asset accounting, cash and state appropriation management and all external reporting.

Position Overview The Controller’s Office at the University of North Texas is seeking a qualified Senior Accountant to join our team. This position is responsible for performing complex accounting functions, including the analysis of financial data, reviewing accounts receivable and payable, and reconciling general ledger accounts. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or a related field related field and three years of accounting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
* Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data; and to communicate effectively.
* Experience working in one or more functional areas of accounting.
* Strong working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, and accounting practices.
* Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
* Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present accounting data in clear concise form.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a Texas public higher education institution Experience with PeopleSoft

Job Duties:Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, schedules, and exhibits; prepares and/or processes general journal entries; and prepares and/or processes payment, cash, purchase, travel, and related vouchers Review and analyze financial data Prepare audit documentation when requiredResearches and reconciles discrepancies in accounts, bank statements, or appropriation balances; and reports findings Works with other departments to increase efficiency, correct errors, and minimize data risk. Assists other department personnel with their use and understanding of the financial system, including reports, transactions, balances, and all general ledger operations
