American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the global leader in commercial payments, driving innovation and growth for businesses worldwide. To sustain this momentum, our Learning & Development team within GCS Sales Enablement is seeking a Senior Instructional Designer to lead the design and management of high-impact learning solutions for our commercial sales organization.
This role will combine learning design with content governance and inventory lifecycle management. You’ll oversee the content management strategy, own the content renewal pipeline, and refresh legacy materials to ensure all learning assets remain timely, relevant, and aligned to business priorities. Your work will directly empower our frontline teams, sales, account development, and leadership, to deliver a consistent brand and value proposition, driving measurable business outcomes.
This role blends creativity with structure and is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of content strategy, operational excellence and instructional design. Your work will ensure our learning ecosystem remains current, impactful, and aligned to the business priorities that drive American Express forward.
Content Development & Curation
- Design, update, and organize learning materials that are engaging, relevant, and aligned to business goals
 - Maintain and refresh content libraries and repositories, ensuring materials remain accurate, consistent, and compliant
 - Apply brand standards and storytelling principles to enhance clarity, visual design, and learner engagement
 - Support the renewal and modernization of legacy content using best practices in adult learning and digital design
 - Use instructional design principles and methodologies to design, storyboard, develop, and implement role-based courses
 - Develop learning resources in a variety of delivery methods including instructor-led training, on-demand learning, videos, and other multimedia
 
Program Management & Organization
- Manage recurring content management deliverables (e.g., content updates, data pulls, stakeholder communications and dashboards)
 - Track project timelines and milestones using structured systems (e.g., Airtable, Excel)
 - Ensure content is accurately loaded, updated, and reported within the Learning Management System (LMS)
 - Support the documentation and communication of project status, updates, and outcomes
 - Conduct audits to ensure content in LMS is fully approved in content governance platform
 - Stay informed on trends and innovation in adult education, e-Learning and technology supported training
 
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with Sales, Product, and L&D stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency across learning initiatives
 
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience designing and developing impactful learning materials, with a demonstrable portfolio
 - Proficiency in Articulate 360 Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, and other video & eLearning authoring tools
 - Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint
 - Strong visual design and storytelling skills; ability to simplify complex concepts
 - Ability to manage projects end to end independently 
 - Highly organized self-starter with proven experience managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
 - Strategic mindset with attention to detail and a commitment to excellence in learning design
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, Instructional Technology, or related field
 - Understanding of the financial services industry and American Express Commercial Products & Services
 - Experience designing learning experiences for sales organizations
 - Experience managing content within a Learning Management System (LMS), including reporting and course administration
 - Strong stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence across global teams
 - Experience implementing learning governance or content renewal processes
 
Salary Range: $78,000.00 to $124,750.00 annually + bonus + benefits
