Job Purpose The Senior Applications Administrator serves as a technical subject matter expert and provides technical ownership and operational support for a portfolio of critical enterprise applications and business administrative systems supporting faculty, staff, prospects, students, and alumni. The position administers and supports applications across on-premises, hybrid, and vendor-managed SaaS environments and is responsible for application configuration, integrations, lifecycle management, installations, upgrades, and technical troubleshooting. The Senior Applications Administrator partners with functional stakeholders, IT teams, and vendors to align technical solutions with business and institutional needs, improve application reliability and efficiency, and support the modernization of the College’s application ecosystem. Builds and maintains comprehensive technical and operational documentation to promote system availability, knowledge transfer, and effective cross-coverage within IT.
The Senior Applications Administrator partners with functional stakeholders, IT teams, and vendors to align technical solutions with business and institutional needs, improve application reliability and efficiency, and support the modernization of the College’s application ecosystem. Minimum Requirements A bachelor’s degree and progressively responsible experience in the administration, integration, and lifecycle management of enterprise software applications in a complex enterprise environment is required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated experience serving as a technical subject matter expert in configuring, supporting, maintaining, integrating, and managing the lifecycle of complex enterprise software applications, preferably within higher education or a similarly complex multi-stakeholder environment. Strong working knowledge of enterprise application architecture, systems design, application lifecycle management, and modern on-premises, hybrid, and SaaS environments. Working knowledge of Windows and Linux/ UNIX environments, relational databases and SQL , automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell or Bash, and fundamental programming concepts. Knowledge of enterprise application integration concepts and technologies, including APIs, web services, middleware, data transformation, and ETL / ELT processes. Must possess strong analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to perform root-cause analysis and clearly document and communicate complex technical issues, solutions, and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and effectively collaborate with technical teams, functional stakeholders, institutional leadership, and vendors. Knowledge of project management and IT service management practices, including incident, problem, change, knowledge, and request management. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and successfully manage multiple concurrent initiatives and operational responsibilities. Knowledge of application and system monitoring concepts, including service health, logging, performance monitoring, alerting, and security vulnerability management. Working knowledge of enterprise application security principles, including role-based access control, least privilege, authentication and authorization, data privacy, and secure application administration practices. Activity Serves as technical subject matter expert and provides technical ownership and operational support for a diverse portfolio of enterprise software applications, ranging from high-touch legacy systems to vendor-managed SaaS platforms. Administers and configures assigned applications to support reliable, secure, and effective operations. Coordinates with functional leads, business stakeholders, vendors, and internal IT teams to diagnose and resolve complex application, integration, and business process issues, including root-cause analysis of recurring problems. Partners with functional administrators to enable appropriate self-service capabilities, establish security and access-control guardrails, and identify opportunities to automate and improve business processes. Implements, monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots application integrations, including APIs, middleware, and ETL / ELT pipelines. Manages and documents operational work through the College’s IT service management system and develops and maintains technical and knowledge base documentation to support troubleshooting, cross-training, knowledge transfer, and end-user support.

Partners with functional leads and business stakeholders to understand requirements, evaluate technical solutions, and translate business needs into effective application solutions. Collaborates with third-party software vendors and internal IT teams throughout implementations, upgrades, and other project activities. Provides technical consultation to business stakeholders and departmental leadership and communicates project status, risks, dependencies, and technical considerations. Coordinates technical testing, implementation, and transition to operational support. Executes project responsibilities in alignment with institutional governance, change management requirements, security standards, and established project management practices.

Activity Develops and executes proactive monitoring, performance management, and optimization practices for a diverse portfolio of applications across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments. Monitors and analyzes application health, availability, logs, performance indicators, integrations, and data flows to identify potential issues, performance degradation, and opportunities for improvement. Collaborates with application administrators, security teams, infrastructure teams, and vendor experts to troubleshoot systemic issues, optimize application performance, and improve service reliability. Stays current on emerging technologies, vendor roadmaps, and application capabilities; evaluates new features and technical solutions; and provides recommendations that improve the reliability, efficiency, maintainability, and user experience of the College’s enterprise application ecosystem.

Activity Manages application lifecycle activities across on-premises, hybrid, and vendor-managed SaaS platforms, including routine patching, application and platform updates, API version changes, upgrades, and major releases. Coordinates release planning, technical testing, validation, and deployment activities with functional owners, vendors, and internal IT teams prior to production implementation. Evaluates application architecture, configurations, dependencies, and integration touchpoints to identify optimization opportunities, address compatibility and supportability concerns, and reduce technical debt. Maintains awareness of vendor release schedules, product lifecycle changes, deprecations, and end-of-support timelines to proactively plan upgrades and minimize operational risk.

Participates in recovery testing and documents recovery procedures to support application resilience and continuity of operations.
