University of South Carolina is hiring a Senior Asset Accountant to manage and oversee Capital Assets within the Controller’s Office General Accounting department. The role involves daily review and reconciliation of assets, conducting physical inventories, preparing monthly and annual reports, managing depreciation, and analyzing financial transactions and capital projects.
Highlights
Manage capital owned and leased assets, including recording updates, asset transfers, disposals, and monthly depreciation.
Conduct monthly reconciliations and review all modifications in the Asset Management System to ensure accuracy.
Perform annual physical inventory and quarterly internal audits of capital and leased assets, ensuring proper tagging and system accuracy.
Assist with reconciling Lease Allocation and Construction in Process entries related to the Asset Management Module.
Support testing and validation of system updates, enhancements, and process improvements.
Require knowledge of GAAP capitalization, capital financing, budgeting, financial management, and state government fiscal accounting processes.
Preferred qualification includes CPA licensure; requires a bachelor's degree in a related field plus three years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of certification, education, and experience.
Work schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with flex hours as needed.
Compensation range between $54,165 and $65,000 annually, full-time (37.5 hours/week).

Advertised Job Summary | The Senior Asset Accountant is accountable for overseeing Capital Assets in the General Accounting department of the Controller’s Office. This role encompasses the daily review of capital assets, conducting physical inventories, preparing asset reports, and managing depreciation. Additionally, it involves researching and analyzing assets and capital projects associated with these assets, verifying and documenting financial transactions, and reconciling and reporting on capital assets and projects. This includes the review and preparation of both monthly and annual reports. Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience | Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials | Preferred Qualifications | Licensed CPA preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Knowledge of the principles, practices, theories and terminology of accounting, capital financing, debt management, tax, banking, budgeting, financial management or investment.
