Senior Contract Specialist
Blackbaud is looking for a talented professional with a strong foundation in legal principles and extensive experience in contract negotiation and review to join our Law Department as a Senior Contract Specialist. This role is ideal for individuals who bring a deep understanding of contract law, risk assessment, and strategic deal-making to support our business objectives.

As Senior Contract Specialist for Blackbaud, you will be responsible for reviewing, drafting, advising on, and negotiating commercial contracts of varying types and complexity levels, particularly SaaS/cloud software sales agreements, DPAs and BAAs. You will also be responsible for managing certain projects and improving processes related to Blackbaud commercial contracting efforts. You may be called upon to assist with other facets of the Law Department's responsibilities.

What you’ll do:
  • Develop, review, advise on and negotiate commercial contracts
  • Manage commercial contracting projects and processes; implement best practices
  • Prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and a significant workload of matters efficiently and effectively
  • Expedite and enhance the sales contracting process without sacrificing contracting standards
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with Blackbaud’s customers, sales and renewals teams and other departments involved in the sales contracting process (e.g., Security, Finance)
  • Provide guidance to internal business teams regarding contract matters
  • Collaborate with other members of the Blackbaud Law Department.

What you’ll bring:
  • Juris Doctor with active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, or a demonstrated track record of substantial contract negotiation experience with a strong focus on legal terms and conditions
  • 5 or more years of contract negotiation experience in a law firm, corporate law department and/or contract management setting
  • Skill at negotiating commercial and legal issues and drafting commercial agreements; ability to contribute strategically to the successful closure of sales opportunities
  • Ability to respond quickly and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume sales contracting environment
  • A sincere attitude of kindness and compassion for those with whom you work, whom you help, Blackbaud’s customers and their constituents
  • A well-developed capacity to understand business issues and challenges and to apply practical legal solutions to problems
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate legal exposure and manage risk.

What we’d prefer you bring:
  • In house counsel, law firm or non-lawyer law department experience
  • Demonstrated process improvement and project management experience
  • Ability and inclination toward program and people management
