Job Summary | Leads analytical support for key reporting efforts, for Cleveland State University, (CSU), such as, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), accreditation, and strategic planning metrics. Translates complex research questions into actionable data queries and analysis, ensuring data consistency, accuracy, and integrity. Designs and maintains interactive dashboards and decision-support tools using various platforms and supports campus-wide data literacy through training and mentoring. Works closely with internal partners, ensures high data quality and helps define institutional KPIs, standards, and documentation. Collaborates with stakeholders across the CSU. Delivers insights that inform strategic decisions. Supports data warehouse development, report automation, and process improvement. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree preferably in mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, or a related field. Three (3) years of progressive experience in information technology management.
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in educational research, social science or related field. Experience managing technical or data engineering teams. Familiarity with data challenges and solutions in higher education. Prior leadership experience in a higher education or public sector environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) | Comprehensive knowledge of data engineering principles, including data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, lakehouse architecture, and metadata management. Strong knowledge of modern data technologies, platforms, and tools such as SQL, Python, Spark, and cloud-based ecosystems e.g., Azure, AWS, Snowflake, Databricks. Knowledge of higher education data environments and regulatory compliance requirements, including FERPA, HIPAA, IPEDS, NSF reporting, and other state/federal mandates. Strategic thinking and adaptability, with the ability to align data initiatives with institutional goals and respond to evolving organizational needs and technologies. Commitment to data governance and security, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, standards, and legal requirements. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Advanced analytical and technical skills, with the ability to solve complex data architecture problems and translate strategic data needs into actionable engineering solutions. Possess a high degree of confidentiality to available information. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
