Senior Instructional Systems Designer, SME Full Description

Overview: 
CVP is seeking versatile Senior Instructional Systems Designer/SME to design and develop a wide range of training, learning, and performance support solutions for both Government and academic organizations.
 
The ideal ISD candidate should possess a solid background in applying adult learning principles to create both face-to-face and technology-based solutions. Individuals should be able to work independently as well as part of a dynamic team in an environment that frequently changes.

Responsibilities: 
  • Collaborate with SMEs, instructors, clients, and internal staff in the design and development of high-quality curricula and courses
  • Master content from existing sources well enough to communicate it in plain language
  • Design instructionally sound educational and training materials in a variety of media and modalities
  • Design simple job aids (e.g., decision tables, step-action charts, quick reference guides)
  • Work with development staff as appropriate to assure faithful implementation of designs
  • Support design and development of training programs and job aids for instructors and learners in online synchronous environments
  • Document project-specific processes and standards
  • Manage work to allocated effort and schedule
  • Demonstrate superior oral and written communication skills
 
Qualifications: 
  • Currently holds, or can obtain, DHS Public Trust
  • MA/MS in Instructional Design or a relevant field 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience:
    • Experience in successfully prioritizing, managing multiple projects, and working in a diverse and professional team environment
    • Knowledge of the course design rubric and processes such as quality matters
    • Experience with the development of competency tracks
    • Knowledge of and experience using a learning management system and other course management tools (Blackboard, Canvas, D2L, Moodle, etc.)
    • Ability to work well without direct supervision as well as in a team environment
    • Proven ability to work with a variety of technology packages in a computing environment including word processing, database management, data retrieval, and presentation
    • Creates an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences
    • Functions and communicates effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds
    • Problem-solving and the requisite knowledge/skills to provide customized business- focused objective advice, expertise, and specialist skills to create value and improve business strategy, internal processes, and performance.
    • Excellent writing and technical editing skills on doctrine, policy directives and supporting instructions, concepts of operations, and standard operating procedures (at least 5 years of experience)
    • Experienced, technical skills to design and develop visual representation of concepts and graphics at professional level (strong preference for Articulate experience)
    • Experience in writing communications for executive senior leadership review
    • Experience and knowledge of policy documents within the Federal government, their structure and content (DHS experience would be ideal), particularly for management controls, and management support services (e.g. human resource, administrative services, audits, etc.) (at least 3 years of experience)
