About the Opportunity
The Ellucian Professional Services team is seeking an energetic, visionary, and collaborative Senior Integration Engineer with a strong leadership background and advanced technical expertise. In this high-impact role, you will lead the design and development of enterprise-grade integration solutions that support our SaaS and Data Integration strategy.
You will be instrumental in shaping the future of integration across the higher education ecosystem, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and architectural best practices. Your leadership will drive strategic initiatives, foster innovation, and ensure seamless connectivity across platforms using Ellucian Ethos Integration—the central nervous system of the modern, connected campus.

Where you will make an impact
- Lead requirement gathering sessions with customer stakeholders to capture integration needs with precision and clarity, ensuring alignment with business goals and SaaS transformation strategies.
- Architect and design scalable integration solutions that meet enterprise standards and support long-term cloud adoption.
- Oversee development efforts, providing technical leadership and mentorship to developers, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices.
- Drive delivery excellence by managing timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams (including offshore resources), and ensuring integrations are deployed on time and within budget.
- Establish and maintain integration frameworks that support ongoing operations, scalability, and performance in a SaaS environment.
- Collaborate with product and platform teams to align integration strategies with Ellucian’s roadmap and customer success goals.
- Continuously improve integration processes, leveraging feedback, metrics, and emerging technologies to enhance reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Champion customer success by proactively identifying opportunities to optimize integrations and reduce technical debt during the transition to SaaS.
- Schedule and conduct meetings with customer representatives to understand their requirements and capture those requirements accurately for use in downstream phases of the software development life cycle.
- Be able to identify appropriate technologies for the solution, given the constraints of the client environment.
- Propose architectures that are cost-effective and in line with Ellucian’s desired product direction.
- Provide project guidance and coordination with offshore resources to complete projects on time and within budget constraints.
- Prepare concise technical documents that accurately describe project requirements and specifications for delivery.
- Work with a dynamic team of developers and other peers to Architect, build, and test the processes according to the prepared specifications.
- Prepare accurate and detailed estimates for integrations and sales proposals.
- Demonstrated aptitude in problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to deconstruct complex technical structures to perform root cause analysis in troubleshooting application and integration issues.
- Stay current with Ellucian applications.
- Provide mentorship to junior developers and assist other Professional Services teams.
- Have an aptitude for learning new technologies with an eagerness to improve the practice constantly.
Be the integration lead to make sure we are driving for institutional success and delivery with project management skills- Project Lifecycle Management: Manage full SDLC projects using Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall methodologies.
- Resource & Stakeholder Management: Lead cross-functional teams and ensure stakeholder alignment.
- Risk & Issue Management: Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies; resolve conflicts and roadblocks.
- Reporting & Metrics: Track KPIs and prepare executive-level reports and dashboards.
- Change Management: Lead change initiatives and assess impact on scope, timeline, and resources.
What you will bring
- 5+ years of experience working with application development frameworks such as NodeJS, React.js (experience with any is acceptable).
- 5+ years of experience in web service development and integration patterns using REST or SOAP, JMS messaging, Request/Reply, and Publish/Subscribe models.
- 5+ years of experience in complex integration architecture and design, with strong knowledge of SOA principles and middleware integration concepts.
- Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale integration projects from planning through execution and delivery.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and managing client expectations across diverse environments.
- Strong decision-making and strategic thinking skills in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
- Experience designing, developing, securing, and managing APIs via API Gateways and proxies.
- Hands-on experience designing and developing inbound and outbound integration interfaces with REST and SOAP APIs.
- Excellent development skills for peer code reviews, debugging, and providing technical direction.
- Proficiency in REST, JSON technologies.
- Experience with databases such as Postgres, Oracle
- Familiarity with version control systems like GIT, SVN.
- Experience with CI/CD processes and tools.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially in leading distributed teams.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and technologies such as AWS Lambda and Datadog.
- Experience with the Ethos Platform (Experience, Ethos Data Connect, or Ethos API platform) is preferred.
- Knowledge of higher education Ellucian ERPs like Banner, CRM Advance, CRM Recruit, and Colleague (preferred but not required).
