Design K-12 Product
Teaching kids to think critically and communicate effectively has never been more important, and NoRedInk helps students become better writers in more than 60% of U.S. school districts. Our adaptive curriculum engages learners by personalizing exercises to their interests, guiding them step-by-step through the writing process, and boosting their skills through differentiated practice. We’re relentlessly focused on helping all students harness the power of the written word.

About the Role

NoRedInk is looking for a product designer to help us achieve our mission of unlocking every writer’s potential. In this role, you’ll serve as the dedicated designer for a cross-functional team focusing on the student learning experience. Every team at NoRedInk owns a significant aspect of our strategy and product, and you’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, curriculum specialists, and other key stakeholders to build innovative software solutions that improve the lives of our users.

More specifically, NoRedInk product designers are responsible for owning the end-to-end design strategy and solutions for their product area by using design thinking, creative problem solving, and visual design craft to deliver meaningful experiences for our students, teachers, and administrators. All of our product designers are “generalists,” meaning that they drive research, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and everything in between.

Design at NoRedInk sits within the larger product team, consisting of product managers and product designers. The design team itself is small but mighty, currently consisting of two other product designers.  As the third member of this team, you’ll be a partner in up-leveling the role of design at NoRedInk by assuming the highest level of ownership over our design system, direction, and processes.

In this role, you will:

  • Own end-to-end design for the student learning experience
  • Drive research, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and usability testing for new features and enhancements.
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, curriculum specialists, and stakeholders from other departments to define, design, and build features that delight users
  • Drive improvements to our product’s overall design, tooling, and processes, and contribute to maintaining and growing our design system

About You:

  • 7+ years relevant experience on an in-house product design team
  • Experience driving end-to-end design for critical, complex projects that both solve user needs and achieve business outcomes
  • Strong experience across information architecture, interaction design, visual design, and prototyping
  • Experience working on an agile team with product managers and engineers
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage deliverables and set expectations with clear communication, planning, and estimated timelines
  • Excellent at giving and receiving design feedback
  • Passion for K-12 education and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for students and educators

What NoRedInk Offers:

  • A competitive salary and equity package in a well-funded startup with strong product-market fit
  • Excellent health, vision, and dental benefits (U.S. Only)
  • 100% remote work environment
  • Flexible PTO and paid parental leave
  • 401(k) (U.S. Only)
  • LinkedIn Learning subscription with unlimited access to thousands of expert-led online courses
  • Team retreats and events to connect with fun, talented coworkers
  • The ability to help millions of students and teachers and address a critical societal need
