About UK Assessment & Qualifications: We are responsible for the delivery of nearly 4 million examination results per annum, including A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and T-levels for students in UK and International centres. Our in-house systems process every learner from registration to marking and certification, in a highly regulated business. We currently operate a hybrid estate of predominantly bespoke systems, with an ongoing strategic transformation programme to migrate from on-prem to cloud based, cost effective, scalable, and resilient services.

Job Description

Senior Quality Assurance Engineers at this tier are recognized for deep technical expertise and are trusted to design, implement, and optimize the most complex modules of critical business applications or back-end infrastructure. They independently drive the technical direction of high-stakes projects, provide authoritative guidance during architecture reviews, and collaborate with product owners to align solutions with business strategy. These engineers act as subject-matter mentors, reviewing the work of peers, and are frequently sought for advice during performance tuning or incident investigations. Their decisions exert measurable influence over team priorities and software design choices, but they remain focused on technical and mentoring rather than people leadership. They hold accountability for the resilience and scalability of systems that underpin essential revenue streams or user-facing platforms, and are relied upon to avert technical risks before they escalate

About you

You are expected to lead as the technical authority within their area, designing and executing advanced test approaches that anticipate and address complex system interactions.Tasked with mentoring peers, they scrutinize quality risks in high-visibility projects and frequently contribute insights to test architecture improvements. They also coordinate with product owners and developers to resolve the most challenging defects, ensuring testing priorities align with both business and technical strategies. Free from people management, they instead shape team knowledge and test approaches, influencing pipeline efficiency and critical release decisions. Areas of consequence include failure to identify regression risks or missed requirements during complex integrations.

  • Collaborate closely with development, AI, and business analysis/Product Owners teams to define quality standards, acceptance criteria, estimations, and test strategies enhancing software reliability and performance.

  • Implement, maintain, and optimise CI/CD pipelines with automated testing frameworks, driving continuous improvement in testing processes, efficiency, and alignment with overall project objectives.

  • Working with Developers to utilise testing methodologies like TDD / BDD in Cloud / Hybrid environment

  • Lead integration testing across cloud platforms (such as AWS and Azure), APIs, and microservices, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.

  • Independently manage and resolve escalated or complex testing cases, applying strong analytical and investigative skills while providing detailed analysis, feedback, and accurate reporting of results.

  • Participate actively in sprint planning, backlog grooming, code reviews, and retrospectives, advocating for a quality-first approach and offering process or tool improvement suggestions.

  • Monitor, document, and report on test results, defects, and quality metrics using tools such as Azure DevOps or JIRA, ensuring complete defect follow-through and transparency.

  • Improve automation test coverage

  • Implement a mechanism via AI or tool to address edge cases

  • Proper documentation and knowledge transition to the entire team

  • Strong expertise in software QA, with experience in automation and testing the application written in .net languages.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), including testing cloud-native applications.

  • Solid understanding of AI/ML systems, data pipelines, and model validation techniques.

  • Strong expertise in test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, NUnit, xUnit, playwright, TestNG/Cucumber).

  • Experience with API testing (Postman, Testfully Rest Assured)

  • Experience with accessibility and browser compatibility testing

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Proficiency in SQL for writing complex queries, joins, and stored procedures to validate backend data.

  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.

  • Strong domain expertise and bring more business scenarios

  • Bring in Automation /AI to reduce manual effort and would have already implemented in previous projects

Desirable Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • AI trainings and implementation of AI agents in the project

  • Providing support to Performance and Security testing teams

  • Application of stringent Definition of Done (DoD) on moving stories to Done in JIRA

  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

  • Shift Left Testing

  • Experience in AI model testing, bias detection, and explainability validation

  • Certifications in AWS/Azure, ISTQB, or equivalent

Job Location and Hours

The role is aligned to our Bangalore or Chennai offices in India, working a 45 hour week. All our roles are hybrid working; our current policy requires our team to work from their base office 3 times per week.

For this role there is a requirement to provide occasional out of hours support during business critical periods.
