About the Role:

Elsevier's Health Markets UX team is seeking a Senior Research Operations Specialist I to co-manage the operational backbone that supports a distributed UX research and design team. This role was created as part of Elsevier's commitment to scaling UX research and delivering products that exceed user expectations through research-driven decision-making.

In this role, you will enable high-quality UX research at scale by creating efficient, compliant, and human-centered processes for participant management, vendor management, research tooling governance, and knowledge enablement. You will work independently in a remote-first environment, collaborating across global time zones to reduce complexity, ensure compliance, and amplify the impact of research across the organization.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Research Operations Specialist, you will:

  • Collaborate with an existing Research Operations team of two, as well as UX Research and Design leadership.

  • Manage participant panels using secure, cloud-based systems and remote-friendly workflows to maintain data quality and operational efficiency.

  • Manage vendor procurement and relationships, including digital contract handling, cost tracking, and proactive issue and feedback management.

  • Audit research tools and processes to identify redundancies, gaps, and cost optimization opportunities, ensuring seamless use for globally distributed teams.

  • Develop and maintain compliance guidance for remote research activities, including participant data privacy standards, incentive guidelines, and secure digital practices.

  • Design and implement changes that support democratized research in a virtual environment, enabling self-service and collaboration across time zones.

  • Deliver virtual training programs on research operations and methods, empowering UX researchers and designers through engaging online formats.

  • Execute knowledge management initiatives by curating research insights and operational information for easy discovery and reuse.

  • Create clear Research Operations documentation and lead effective change management and communications through digital channels.

  • Conduct internal research on workflows and reporting to improve the effectiveness of research operations services.

  • Provide ongoing team support by responding to questions, issues, and feedback while continuously improving how a growing team is supported at scale.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Research Operations or a related field, with strong knowledge of participant management, vendor management, compliance practices, and knowledge management.

  • Proven ability to manage complex operational processes in a remote-first environment, including workflow optimization and change management.

  • Strong understanding of data privacy and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR) and experience creating clear guidance for distributed teams.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize, work independently, and deliver results across multiple initiatives.

  • Strong time management and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage expectations and avoid over-commitment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including documentation, training materials, and stakeholder updates.

  • Comfort working with research tooling and knowledge management systems, including curating insights and maintaining metadata.

  • Ability to deliver virtual training and enablement programs that empower researchers and designers.

  • Collaborative mindset, with experience working across UX, Legal, Privacy, IT, and Procurement teams.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify root causes and improve underlying operational issues.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Familiarity with reporting and data analysis for operational health metrics.

  • Background as a UX researcher and familiarity with remote research methods and best practices.

  • Technical skills such as building automations, working with AI, APIs, and data hygiene practices.

  • Experience working in agile environments using issue tracking tools.

  • A passion for building easy-to-use and delightful user experiences.
