About the Role:
We are looking for a full-time Scientific Editor to join our editorial team. If you are enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic, mission-oriented, a team-player and love thinking about science broadly, then this could be the role for you. 

We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any topic area covered by the journal (https://www.cell.com/cell/aims)  and we are especially interested in considering candidates with experience in computational biology, genetics/genomics, and cancer biology, machine learning, and clinical and translational research. This position is open for candidates at entry as well as more senior levels.  

Core Responsibilities:
  • Recruiting exciting research studies and review material
  • Assessing submitted research papers
  • Overseeing the peer review process and publication of papers
  • Engaging the scientific community in their labs and at conferences to learn about scientific developments and establish relationships
  • Developing and executing strategy in a specific topic covered by the journal

Qualifications:
  • Broad interests, love of science, and desire to learn. As an editor, you will need to understand and evaluate the diverse science covered by Cell and you will need to appreciate the issues and questions that drive different fields.
  • A talent for clear communication. Good editors help authors make their message clear, concise, and compelling, so readers know why the science is important and how it will impact their work.
  • Interest in digital communication and publishing trends.
  • Creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve.
  • The ability to organize, prioritize, and focus.
  • Great interpersonal skills. Collaboration, teamwork and networking are core aspects of the job.
  • PhD in a relevant discipline. Applicants with a professional background such as running a research group or industry experience are also encouraged to apply.
