Discovery Education is looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer with a solid background in cross-platform digital experiences to join our Corporate Education Partnerships/Social Impact team. A keen aesthetic and passion for design, blended with user-centered methodology, is critical for ensuring successful experiences for our wide range of audiences (teachers, students, parents, communities, and employees). The ideal candidate has real world experience producing engaging design solutions for new media projects from concept through launch. They’re pros at using the latest technology (Figma) and enjoy working as part of a team in a supportive and engaging environment.

About the Role
 
Primary: UI/Visual Design

  • Support brand standards, style guides and design element library.
  • Create high quality visual designs, taking the designs from concept to execution with a mobile-first perspective.
  • Support visual language approach with iconography, typography, color, and system of visual affordances that work cross-platform and device.
  • Present design solutions in context of overall brand solution to internal stakeholders.
  • Support the overall creative look and feel of the user interface for web and mobile education applications.
  • Manage and develop a consistent design language to guide the look and feel of the company’s products.
  • Interface and collaborate with engineering team to realize the implementation of approved designs.

Secondary: User Experience, Information Architecture, Content Strategy

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to align program objectives, deliverables, and mission/vision elements into a cohesive summary document to inform overarching program strategy (website, video, curriculum, marketing)
  • Create user experience workflow design, wireframes and functioning prototypes based on established component library.
  • Present over-arching program brief and proposed digital strategy to meet program goals to internal account leads and external clients.
  • Collaborate with the research team to gain insights into end-user needs and goals to optimize user experience.
  • Partner with front‐end developers and create HTML and CSS‐friendly designs.
  • Create layouts in appropriate software (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) as well as production art to be used in HTML and CSS.
  • Work collaboratively with team members from curriculum, editorial, learning analytics, design, and technology.
  • Incorporate feedback from internal team members and clients to ensure work is in-line with overall briefs, client expectations, and end-user goals.
  • Maintain current digital experiences and support on-going graphic production needs.

Requirements

  • 10–15+ years of experience in digital design and production for digital platforms.
  • Online work portfolio is required, with an emphasis on elegant, cohesive design systems and showcasing innovative digital concepts and creative design solutions, including the types of work listed above.
  • Maintain an understanding of industry trends, current events, anything that may impact the business by reading professional publications, researching all available prospect/product resources.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills.
  • Understand new technologies and industry trends and be able to speak to how they impact Discovery Education.
  • Read professional literature regularly to contribute as a thought-leader and educational expert to DE.
  • Establish strong relationships with associated corporate partners and DE colleagues across the business.
  • Use DE resources wisely to ensure the maximum impact and look for opportunities to reduce costs and ensure a successful customer experience.
  • Maintain a deep and current knowledge of all products and value-added offerings at Discovery Education.
  • Collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Solid foundation in design, user experience, information architecture and content strategy.
  • Expert knowledge of Figma.
  • In-depth knowledge of the following applications: Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, Confluence, JIRA, etc.
  • Directing the work of less senior designers on the team.
  • Problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Presentation and consensus building skills.
  • Ideal candidate will either have BFA in Design or related design degree and will be passionate about keeping up to date with trends, best practices, digital advancements, and competitors.
  • Willingness to accept and act quickly on feedback.
  • Grace and focus under tight deadline pressure.
  • Must have a laser-sharp attention to detail.
  • Needs ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Legal right to work in the United States.
