Simulation Operations Specialist (Program Technician 1) Full Description

Department Overview:

This position is responsible for providing technological and administrative support to the OHSU Simulation Program with a focus on clinical skills training of healthcare professionals. This position works in the OHSU Simulation Center in the Robertson Life Sciences Building, which is a 20,000 square foot facility. There are multiple simulation centers and a growing footprint at OHSU. This position is responsible for collaborating with OHSU Simulation Operations teams across OHSU and its partner institutions. This position partners directly with OHSU faculty, facilitating clinical skills labs in service of all learners, supporting the overall skill training needs for the School of Nursing cohorts, the Physician Assistant learners, the School of Medicine, along with other hospital based teams.

Function/Duties of Position:

Skills Lab & Community Engagement Support

  • Prepares and facilitates skills lab sessions in MRISC and off-site, as needed.
  • Provides day-of direct user support during clinical skills lab events.
  • Selects and organizes teaching aides such as videos, supplies, and equipment to demonstrate improved methods of patient care.
  • Develops understanding and familiarity with medical terminology, equipment, supplies, objectives, and procedures needed to facilitate clinical skills events.
  • Locates and manages medical supplies needed to enhance delivery of clinical skills activities (e.g. pharmacy drugs, dressings).
  • Collaborates with other program technicians with preparation and logistics for each standardized clinical skills training experience.
  • Ensures sign in forms and evaluation tools are ready.
  • Partners with Skills Lab Coordinator and Operations Leads to facilitate the scheduling needs and programmatic delivery.
  • Actively participates in all community engagement activities, both at MRISC, on the hill of OHSU and off-site, as needed. 

Healthcare Training Equipment and Clinical Task Trainer Support

  • Operation and Maintenance of Healthcare Training Equipment (i.e. life‐support systems, physiologic monitors, ultrasound machines, and IV pump systems) and clinical task trainers.
  • Travels to the hill to pick up and return equipment, as needed and available for programs.
  • Partners with faculty with troubleshooting technologies during skills events.
  • Provides user orientation and support for Equipment and Clinical Task Trainers including low/mid fidelity simpad run manikins.
  • Maintains Equipment and Clinical Task Trainers Inventory.
  • Provides consultation on new purchases of Equipment and Clinical Task Trainers and simulation tools.
  • Collaborates with vendors to borrow additional manikins, task trainers, etc. to meet course objectives, as available.
  • Collaborates with hospital departments to borrow additional equipment for simulation center activities including transportation and servicing as appropriate.
  • Coordinates outgoing and processes incoming Equipment and Clinical Task Trainer equipment loans and shares, in partnership with the skills lab coordinator, for OHSU training events. 

Audio Visual Equipment Support

  • Operates Debrief Room and Classroom A/V technology such as the classroom projectors, speakers, and Crestron A/V switcher devices.
  • Provides user orientation and support for the A/V technology.
  • Level 1 Triage of Debrief Room and Classroom A/V technology

Laerdal SimCapture

  • Develops familiarity with both A/V technology and recording software (SimCapture).
  • Records skills events using resident A/V technology and SimCapture.
  • Provides user orientation and support for B-Line Medical.
  • Level 1 Triage of SimCapture sessions and debriefing. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience administering or coordinating parts or subsets of a project or program.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or a field directly related to the position will substitute for two years of the required experience.

  • Experience working with A/V equipment, such as SimCapture.

  • Experience working with web-based computer technology.

  • Experience working with multimedia service and support with direct customer contact.

  • Experience working with higher education faculty and professional students.

  • Experience working with customers and clients in high-intensity environments. 

  • Demonstrates successful work experience with database systems.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and the ability to work with diverse groups; students, faculty, staff, and IT group.

Additional Details:

Monday through Friday. Flexibility to work irregular hours as needed. Includes occasional evenings.
