Job Description Summary
The College of Performing Arts (CoPA) seeks an outgoing and creative Social Media Assistant to help generate engaging content across various social media platforms. In this role, you will work closely with CoPA’s Communication & Marketing Specialist to create, solicit, edit, and post content that highlights CoPA: the dance, theatre, and music departments, students/alumni, faculty projects, upcoming events, etc. Ideal candidates will be proactive, communicative, and have a strong understanding of social media trends and best practices. Experience in vertical video editing is essential. Time commitment is 10 hours per week.
Responsibilities
  • Lead in the filming, editing, and posting of social media content, ensuring it aligns with CoPA’s messaging and branding.
  • Stay current with social media trends and frequently suggest innovative ideas for CoPA to authentically engage with trending topics or formats.
  • Focus on vertical video content, ensuring strong editing skills for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and similar formats.
  • Post content across multiple platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Monitor and manage CoPA’s social media notifications, responding to comments and messages, resharing tagged posts, and engage with peer organizations to foster increased engagement across our channels.
  • Focus on promoting CoPA’s activities, including student life, alumni and faculty projects, department productions, behind-the-scenes content, and other relevant initiatives.
  • Help coordinate engaging content types such as Instagram story takeovers, “Day in the Life” videos, “Get Ready with Me” videos, and more.
  • Collaborate with the Communication & Marketing Specialist to ensure content aligns with broader CoPA marketing strategies and objectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Must understand the nuanced features of major social platforms, particularly Instagram and TikTok, with the ability to edit content quickly and craft compelling captions.
  • Takes initiative connecting with peers across all three departments (music, theatre, dance) to source content ideas, collaborate, and film as needed – without waiting for direction.
  • Naturally social and enthusiastic with a lively personality – comfortable approaching and connecting with new people to create engaging content.
  • Self-starter who anticipates trend opportunities and quickly brings them to life.
  • Skilled in editing and finalizing short-form vertical video content with editing apps like CapCut, Canva, Adobe Express, or comparable tools.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience crafting engaging social media captions tailored to the unique style of each platform, with clear calls to action.
  • Previous experience managing social media for a club, organization, or personal brand.
  • Ability to learn social media analytics.
  • Willingness to learn new tools and take initiative on projects.
