At the Alumni Association, we inspire lifelong connections with a global network of Maryland alums. In an effort to achieve this vision, we connect, cultivate and channel the power of alumni to enrich themselves and advance the university through membership, event engagement, and volunteerism.
The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for managing social media strategy and day-to-day operations for the Alumni Association. This includes the management of content creation, scheduling and responding to comments and messages. The Coordinator will collaborate with all Alumni Association teams and the Office of Marketing and Communications to execute marketing strategies designed to engage 431,000+ alumni with their alma mater. They will analyze social media performance and data to make recommendations on the most effective methods for outreach to engage constituents, thus improving communication efforts in order to increase attendance at events and engagement with the Alumni Association. This position is integral to the success of our organization with opportunities for professional growth and development. The Coordinator will join a high performing, energetic team that works toward achieving the mission and vision of the Alumni Association and the university.
Physical Demands:
- Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends as necessary
- Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds
- Able to independently navigate campus
Preferences:
- 1 year social media or content creation experience
- Some higher education or nonprofit experience/familiarity with UMD campus
- Experience with a social media scheduling platform (i.e. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.)
- Experience using social graphic creation program Canva
- Passionate about social media and creative thinker

This is a Contingent 1 (C1) Position for 25-30 hours/week.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: One (1) year of professional administrative or coordinator experience.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of best practices in organization, administration, and customer service.
• Knowledge of proper protocol in dealing with confidential information.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
• Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
