Social Media Coordinator - Student Affairs Communications and Marketing Full Description

General Information:
Student Affairs Communications and Marketing (SACM) is seeking applications for a Social Media Coordinator. SACM is an on-campus marketing team that completes creative projects for departments in JMU's division of Student Affairs. We specialize in videography, graphic design, gallery curation, social media management, and photography.

The Social Media Coordinator provides social media consultation and coordination, offers marketing and communications support, and supervises student employees. Our student employees gain hands-on experience with professional projects, media production and teamwork. They work with real-world clients in a supportive environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Social Media:
  • Coordinate content strategy for Student Affairs social media accounts.
  • Provide social media consultation and direction for unit-level accounts by implementing proven marketing techniques and strategic practices.
  • Stay current with social media best practices and trends to assist in future planning.
  • Coordinate content placement schedules and strategies by deploying teams of creative student employees to create deliverables, determining appropriate promotional channels and developing measurable goals.
  • Analyze social media data and make recommendations.
  • Review Student Affairs social media accounts for accessibility requirements.
  • Conduct an annual audit and consolidation of Student Affairs social media accounts.
Supervision and Support:
  • Supervise a team of Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) social media student employees.
  • Supervise a team of Health and Well-being social media student employees.
  • Provide professional development relating to best practices in social media accessibility and trends.
Marketing and Communications:
  • Support weekly student email, Dukes News, and other divisional communication using the university's CRM system.
Departmental Technology Support:
  • Serve in a web content manager role within the university content management system, Cascade, for Student Affairs Communications and Marketing (SACM).
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience managing social media business accounts on various platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, strategizing and executing social media campaigns and analyzing results.
  • Strong organization and planning skills, including the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Considerations:
  • Experience working within cross-functional marketing and creative teams.
  • Understanding of Brandwatch or similar content management tool.
  • Knowledge of marketing principles, theories and techniques.
  • Familiarity with web and social media accessibility standards.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
