Job Overview: The Spanish Reading Interventionist provides targeted, research-based literacy instruction to students who require additional support in developing foundational reading skills in Spanish. This role focuses on accelerating student growth in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through small-group and individualized instruction. The Interventionist collaborates closely with classroom teachers, instructional leaders, and families to ensure student progress and alignment with school-wide literacy goals.
 
Reports To and Supervises: Intervention teachers report directly to Campus Leadership and do not supervise any staff.
 
Responsibilities and Duties:
Instruction & Student Support
  • Provide small-group and one-on-one reading intervention in Spanish based on student data.
  • Implement evidence-based literacy strategies aligned with structured literacy practices.
  • Develop and monitor individualized intervention plans for students.
  • Support multilingual learners in strengthening biliteracy skills.
  • Create engaging, culturally responsive instructional materials.
  • Administer literacy assessments and progress monitoring tools.
  • Analyze student data to adjust instruction and intervention groups.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student growth and intervention outcomes.
  • Participate in data meetings.
    Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner with classroom teachers to align intervention goals with core instruction.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress and strategies to support reading at home.
  • Collaborate with special education, ESL, and support staff as needed.
  • Participate in professional learning communities and professional development.
  • Promote family involvement in education through partnerships between the school, parents, other organizations, agencies, and community-based family partners
  • Required to attend pre-planned evening events throughout the year such as APTT, Expo, Flamboyan family home visits, etc.
  • Encouraged to attend at least one family / community event a year such as orientation, prospective parent info sessions, family potlucks, teacher recruiting etc.
  • OPTIONAL: Teach or provide interventions in Mundo Verde’s summer program for an additional stipend
  • Other duties as assigned

Other Job Details
  • Schedule: 8 hour day, from 8am to 4:30pm 
  • Location: Cook Campus and/or Calle 8 Campus
  • Position Type (STAFF): This is a 10-month salaried position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. 
  • Employment subject to TB test, fingerprinting and background check

Qualifications, Skills and Values
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Elementary Education, Spanish, Literacy or a related field
  • Experience working with students in small-group or targeted instructional settings
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
  • Foundational knowledge of reading and/or math instructional strategies and interventions
  • Ability to analyze student data to identify learning gaps and monitor progress
  • Strong collaboration skills to work with classroom teachers, special education staff, and school leadership
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and student data systems

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching certification or licensure (Elementary or related area)
  • Training in research-based literacy programs (e.g., dual language or biliteracy models).
  • Experience in bilingual or dual language school settings.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based intervention programs
  • Familiarity with progress monitoring tools and assessment platforms
  • Experience supporting multilingual learners and/or students with disabilities
  • Master’s degree in Education, Spanish, Literacy or a related field
