At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Long Beach, CA! About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, youâll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Long Beach, CA!
Details:
- In-Person Tutoring in Long Beach, CA!
- Schedule: 6 hours per month; 1x a week for 1hr 30mins, per session
- Rate is betweem $25 and $35 per hour
Ideal Candidate:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
- Experience working with students with autism and IEPs
- Background supporting students performing below grade level (around 2nd grade)
- Strong understanding of foundational literacy, including reading fluency, comprehension, and basic writing
- Experience teaching foundational math skills and core math concepts (number sense, basic operations)
- Ability to support language and communication development alongside academics
- Familiarity with behavior support strategies, including positive reinforcement and structured routines
- Patient, calm, and consistent, with the ability to manage mild frustration and transitions
- Comfortable conducting an academic assessment to guide instruction
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct an initial tutor assessment to identify skill gaps and guide individualized instruction
- Provide targeted instruction in foundational literacy, including reading fluency, comprehension, and basic writing skills
- Deliver math instruction focused on number sense, foundational operations, and core math concepts
- Support language and communication development through structured conversation and academic tasks
- Break down lessons into manageable steps using visuals, repetition, and guided practice
- Implement structured sessions with clear routines, expectations, and smooth transitions
- Use positive reinforcement and proactive strategies to support engagement and reduce frustration
- Incorporate student interests (e.g., drawing, YouTube, Roblox) to increase motivation (while respecting boundaries around preferred items like Legos)
- Provide consistent redirection and support during challenging or non-preferred tasks
- Maintain a calm, supportive, and engaging learning environment
- Monitor progress and adjust instruction based on student needs
- Communicate regularly with caregivers regarding progress and strategies
