Specialist, Student Accounts Full Description

Overview: 
Performs accounts receivable functions and maintain controls of a complex nature in the area of Student Accounts. Provide information and assistance to students, faculty, staff and community residents.  Implement and enforce policies and regulations as they relate to the Student Accounts area.  Performs all necessary tasks on student accounts to ensure accuracy.

Responsibilities: 
  • Research and resolve any questions regarding student problems. 
  • Perform various functions regarding registration: Operate PC, cash register and credit card machine.
  • Record, control and reconcile daily cash receipts, make deposits and post to online cash receipts journal.
  • Initiate requests for all disbursements for refunds, student loans and financial aid. Research and adjust to correct errors.
  • Calculate, verify and invoice all county chargebacks.
  • Process and post documents for Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) students. Communicate with DVR counselors. Prepare and verify book slip postings for accuracy.
  • Research, accumulate data, code and invoice for all sponsorship, e.g., corporate, private agency, army, navy and any other tuition assistance programs. Invoice, maintain a log and be in contact with respective offices to resolve any problems that arise.  Maintain sponsorship accounts as needed.  Accurately post sponsorship payments.
  • Balance all accounting reports on a daily basis.
  • Prepare and maintain spreadsheets on relevant accounting activity as needed.
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of and insure compliance with the Federal Education rights to privacy act. (FERPA)
  • Explain and enforce Student Accounts practices and regulations for students and staff.
  • Investigate, improve and offer all relevant suggestions regarding the daily routine.
  • Work with various agencies associated with Brookdale Community College and involved with Student Accounts functions including payment plans, collections and sponsorships.
  • Call students and other customers of Brookdale Community College to collect on delinquent accounts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
Education: 
  • Associate's Degree.
 
Experience: 
  • Two years of related experience. 
 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 
  • Some College level accounting desirable.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Computer literacy skills at an intermediate level with the demonstrated ability to utilize and apply Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as specialized software programs and computer applications.
  • Ability to learn and apply office practices, procedures, policies, and regulations that are essential to the position.
 
Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations: 
  • Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities.
  • Evening and Saturday hours required as needed.
