The Senior Product Manager oversees ETS products, features, and market roadmap that drives increased margins for products and contracts working closely with other functional centers of excellence. The incumbent will be the client facing escalation point and is accountable for effective implementation of products and services to clients. The Senior Product Manager reports to the Executive Director of K-12 State Student Assessment products and will supervise one or more Product Managers depending on organizational needs.

The incumbent for this specific position will serve as the contract Project Manager for ETS’s two test development contracts for the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP). The role is 100% assigned to the MCAP contracts and may require occasional travel to meet with the Maryland State Department of Education staff or other product team members in person or to attend conferences on behalf of the contracts. This position is eligible for remote work within the continental U.S.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as the contracts’ Project Manager who is responsible for all aspects of the projects for item development, as defined in the assigned contracts and in this capacity, serve as the primary point of contact with state client and with the client’s contractors their assessment programs
  • Act as a product owner, collecting input from external stakeholders (state client, educators, technical advisory committee members, other state contractors) and internal teams (e.g., Assessment Operations) to build and prioritize the products required in the contracts.
  • Lead the specification, development, and evolution of products that have been validated for a go-to-market, collecting input from external stakeholders and internal teams (Assessment Operations, Technology, Research, PID, Marketing, Sales) to build and prioritize new products, features, and investments
  • Communicate information about complex concepts and projects in a digestible and persuasive manner based on your audience, sell innovative ideas, and prioritize across product portfolios.
  • Act as a primary stakeholder to the development team to deliver business requirements, validate the feature backlog and ensure an excellent user experience is delivered to customers.
  • Help lead product strategy and roadmap through the entire creative cycle: ideation, specification, development, release, analysis, and iteration
  • Create product investment business cases and advocate for resources
  • Be responsible for hitting the key performance indicators you are entrusted with, particularly with contractual obligations, Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) requirements, and financial targets.
  • Define and prioritize market and user segmentation. Coordinate market analysis, and other research and discovery
  • Lead other product managers in complex projects
  • Lead competitive analysis to establish product positioning and feature differentiation
  • Lead quantitative analysis on features’ performance and find opportunities for optimization
  • Identify platforms, products and product attributes that will improve the quality and efficiency of products
  • Lead qualitative and quantitative research to discover feature ideas and validate them before development

Experience and Skills
Required Education & Experience
  • At least six years of Product or Project Management experience for assessment products over $100M.
  • Undergraduate degree in related fields, preferably in Education or Business Administration, or other areas combined with relevant work experience
  • At least six years of experience working on large-scale state student assessment contracts
  • At least six years of direct successful interactions with state clients and educators
  • Proven successful experience managing teams

Required Skills
  • Experience generating outstanding results as a Product Manager at a high performing assessment development organization (3+ years); experience in the U.S. K-12 education field preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience with product management and development approaches (Agile); experience managing key activities on U.S. K-12 state student assessment contracts preferred
  • Ability to apply user insights, data, and statistical analyses to inform decisions
  • Self-motivated with the proven ability to learn fast and be resourceful
  • Enjoys and can demonstrate ability to work well in a highly matrixed, collaborative, creative and mission-driven environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong quantitative skills and a deep understanding of product funnels, data analytics,
