Job Title Staff Accountant

Job Description
The Staff Accountant will report to the Supervisor of Accounting Operations and will oversee the quality and accuracy of the financial statements for a leading global provider of high-quality educational services. The position will have a clear understanding of the company's financial systems and processes to ensure compliance with GAAP, relating but not limited to revenue recognition and period expenses. The key accounting functions of the position include journal entry preparation, month end close, financial statement analysis, and account reconciliations. The position will also work in conjunction with team leaders to achieve team goals and deliverables.
             
Responsibilities: 
  • Preparation and posting of standard/adjusting journal entries
  • Perform month-end close procedures and meet all deadlines
  • Review and analyze revenue reports for accuracy in accordance with GAAP
  • Interact with field personnel to ensure subsidiary ledger and financial statement accuracy
  • Financial statement review including detailed variance analysis of profit and loss and balance sheet statements
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate/resolve reconciling items
  • Assist with audit requests and interact with internal/external auditors
  • Ensure proper internal controls are maintained for corporate/field financial processes
  • Perform various high level ad-hoc analyses and complete special requests as assigned by management
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree; Accounting major
  • 1+ years accounting experience required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting including:
    • Revenue Recognition
    • Inventory
    • Accounts Receivable
    • Allowance for Doubtful Accounts
    • Accruals
    • P&L variances
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Must be proficient in Excel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new business systems/applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Oracle experience preferred

The salary range for the Staff Accountant role is currently between $58,000 - $62,000, and the amount that is offered is based on the candidate's skills, experience and education, among other factors determined by the business. It is within Kaplan's discretion to adjust this range based on business needs.
