We're currently looking for a talented, community-building Staff Android Engineer who:

If this sounds like you, here’s what you’ll do:

In this role, you'll lead fast-moving initiatives and our technical strategy on the Android platform. Android is the dominant platform in many of our top markets and the largest platform for new signups. You'll be responsible for making sure Android users feel the magic when we instantly connect them with a native english speaker for the first time. You'll also be responsible for leading our Android platform to enable our growing team to build and ship high quality Android features quickly. Our codebase is primarily in Kotlin and all new features are written in Kotlin.

Things we're looking for:

  • A product-minded approach to engineering. You’re excited about working directly with our students, tutors, and our international team to make sure students have an amazing experience.
  • 8+ years highly applicable experience building and shipping consumer-facing Android software
  • Experienced building consumer Android apps in a codebase with other Android engineers
  • Experience with the latest best practices in modern Android development, so much so that others seek you out for this knowledge
  • Deep understanding and proficiency in design patterns and writing clean, testable code
  • Proficient in Kotlin and Android SDKs, including knowledge of Jetpack libraries
  • Experience with concurrency design patterns using Coroutines or RxJava
  • A global perspective and creative mindset. You should be excited about building an app in 10+ languages that integrates with the social networks and payment methods used by our students.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • It would also be great if you had continuous integration experience with mobile apps and consumer marketplace industry experience.

This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the expected base salary range for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Compensation Package $160,000 - 220,000 USD Base Salary + Pre-IPO Stock Options
