Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement:

The University of Maryland is looking for a dynamic HR professional to join the Staff Relations team in University Human Resources.
The Staff Relations Consultant will:
 -Administer labor agreements and respond to grievances and employee complaints
 -Conduct workplace investigations and use conflict resolutions techniques to resolve workplace problems
 -Represent the University in grievances brought by bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit employees
 -Provide analysis, critical thinking, consultation, training, and coaching to University Business Partners on interpretation of labor agreements and policies, and to ensure compliance
 -Works toward the development of positive employee relations

The successful candidate will be ethical, accurate and transparent in communications; collaborative and work well in teams; possess expert vetting and consultation skills; and value the relationship between management and labor.

Physical Demands:
This is an office position with a regular/standard work schedule. Travel within the campus and limited off-campus (limited) is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five (5) years of professional human resources experience in the areas of employee or labor relations.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including those pertaining to collective bargaining and employer-employee relations.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
