Physical Requirements | repetitive motion typical of desk work (sitting/typing/bending/twisting); prolonged exposure to computer screens; lifting/pushing/pulling objects up to 20lbs
Shift | Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm (40 hours per week)

Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and innovative STEPS Instructional Designer to join our team and play a key role in creating high-quality, engaging, and effective learning experiences. This individual will work closely with the College of Social Work Centers & Labs Instructional Design team and other key stakeholders to design, develop, and implement comprehensive training materials and resources. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge learning solutions in a dynamic environment. Key responsibilities include:

Course Design & Development: ·
Design, develop, and implement online training programs.Review training to ensure learning objectives, course content, and assessments align and meet the intended goals.Analyze, update, and refine existing online training.Utilize best practices in instructional design and adult learning principles to create engaging and effective learning materials, including eLearning modules, training resources, and video content.

Learning Experience & User Engagement:
Conceptualize and create instructionally sound storyboards, interactive components, scripts, and other design documents.Incorporate multimedia elements (e.g., graphics, animations, simulations) to enhance learner engagement and knowledge retention.Ensure accessibility standards are met in all training materials and learning environments.

Collaboration and Communication:
Ability to break down complex concepts into simple, understandable language.Explain concepts and ideas visually through wireframes, storyboards, flowcharts, and mockups to ensure clarity and make design concepts more tangible.Communicate complex design decisions effectively, presenting ideas clearly and confidentlyFacilitating discussions that encourage collaboration and help move projects forward.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, Backward design, etc.), and eLearning development tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Cloud Apps, etc.).Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and virtual training platforms (e.g., Moodle, Zoom, other web-based Content Management Systems (CMS), etc.).Adhere to design processes from ideation to design and prototyping through testing and evaluation and, finally, launch and post-production evaluation.Broad understanding of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.2, Section 508)Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to make materials accommodating individual learner differences.Experience with video production and editing tools.Proficiency in HTML/CSSFamiliarity with gamification and other advanced learning strategies.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.Creative, innovative, detail-oriented, passionate about creating impactful learning experiences.Aptitude to learn and research new trends in digital media.
