Job Summary | The Student Account Counselor is an integral member of the Bursar/Student Accounts Team supporting campus-wide collection efforts through proactive communication, outreach, and collaboration with students, their families, Bowdoin academic and administrative departments, and our external partners. Serving as the front line to the Bursar Office, the Student Account Counselor will serve as primary contact for students and families, delivering expert guidance including, but not limited to, tuition billing, payment plans, alternative loans, off campus study, health insurance, and financing options.
Essential Functions: Provides exceptional customer service and advice to students and parents, explaining billing processes, payment options, and resolving account issues with accuracy, professionalism, and care. Assist students under financial stress by understanding their unique student needs and utilizing the available payment options. Assists in the administration of payment services for students participating in Off Campus Study, and manages the Outside Scholarship tracking process. Monitor student account details for non-payments, delayed payments, and other irregularities; communicate past due accounts to students to ensure that aged transactions are settled in a timely fashion. Monitor all Quikpay One Time and Installment Plan Payments to ensure that all adjustments/returns are recorded accurately. Provide back-up to the Accounts Receivable Specialist/Cashier and assist in posting payments and cash handling.
The hiring range for this position is expected to be $60, 500 – 64, 500 annually.

Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, student information databases, and Internet or web-based applications. Capacity to collect, compile, and organize facts, figures, and to triage information. Ability to maintain clear and effective communication with students, parents, and other departments regarding billing and payment processes.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents | 1-3 years experience in a similar role required.
Understanding the role of college/university office of Bursar/Student Accounts. Familiarity with financial aid and Title IV regulations. Capacity to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately. Ensure all processes comply with institutional policies, as well as state and federal regulations. Stay updated on changes in regulations affecting student accounts. Ability to show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, work/interact with a variety of internal and external constituents.
