Job Description:
Position Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 per year; offer dependent on experience
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Client Services & Student Advising, the Student Advising Manager serves as a lead within the Student Advising team, supervising, coordinating, and managing unit-wide advising practices and administrative functions to ensure strict compliance with federal immigration regulations. This position oversees processes that support the accuracy and integrity of students' immigration records and provides individualized guidance to F-1 students pursuing employment benefits, helping them meet all regulatory requirements while maintaining lawful status.
Interviews for this position will commence in January 2026.
Essential Duties:
- Support the ISSC student advising team on immigration compliance matters for F-1 students at all ASU campus locations.
- Lead 3-4 assigned staff members in developing and implementing advising practices and improved workflow for SEVIS transactions and immigration document processing.
- Assist in the development and execution of communication and multi-media strategies aimed at engaging with the international student population specifically regarding F-1 regulations.
- Provide training and support to advising team on immigration regulations, and institutional policies.
- Oversee the maintenance of student files to ensure accurate record keeping and maintaining consistency of PeopleSoft, Sunapsis, and SEVIS records.
- Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) for Arizona State University.
- Interface with Department of Homeland Security including Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),
- Customs and Border Protection (CBP), along with various units of Department of State and work with other DSO's to ensure consistent protocol regarding policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership and/or support in the SEVIS Compliance audit projects throughout the semester including SEVIS/Sunapsis alerts, enrollment, and immigration compliance audits
- Develop checklists and procedures for advising staff for SEVIS processes using Sunapsis database.
- Present ISSC immigration workshops and other outreach efforts to students and campus partners supporting international students.
- Represent the ISSC and serve on various department and university committees as assigned.
- Work closely and collaboratively with Senior Director to identify, develop and implement annual ISSC goals and objectives; participates in communication and monitoring of activities to ensure achievement.
- Coordinate with other Managers in office in overseeing advising processes relevant to their teams.
- As requested/required, assist ISSC leadership with special projects and other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications:
- Three (3) years as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Office (ARO).
- Federal regulations require that the incumbent be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident for certification as Designated School Official.
- Demonstrated knowledge of immigration regulations for international students and scholars.
- Demonstrated knowledge of office procedures and administrative practices and principles.
- Experience working in a high-volume customer service environment in a higher education setting, and with diverse populations.
- Experience in maintaining complex filing and record keeping systems.
- Experience in working with confidential documents and sensitive data.
- Experience using an online database such as Sunapsis, Salesforce, or any similar databases Experience Using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with international students or study abroad experiences.
- Knowledge of the F-1 immigration regulation requirements and resources for students in higher education.
- Knowledge in navigating complex immigration situations.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Skill in effectively managing, supervising, and evaluating assigned staff.
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing work activities.
- Evidence of effective communication.
- Skill in the use of personal computers and related software programs, including vendor databases such as Sunapsis, university student and human resource databases such as PeopleSoft, and government database systems such as the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
- Experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Office (ARO).
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%). Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%). Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

The International Students and Scholars Center is comprised of a staff of trained experts, versed in the details and requirements of academic and employment-based programs, who provide visa and immigration advice and support to visiting students and scholars. These services include oversight of visa programs, planning and coordinating orientations for the international students, and assisting with visa and immigration for new students, staff, and scholars.
