Northern Virginia Community College is hiring a Student and Office Support Specialist. This role involves assisting the Advising Center office manager with operational oversight of the Annandale Campus Advising Center front desk and providing support at the Student Affairs intake information desk and the Dean of Student Success office. The specialist screens students for staff, supervises student employees, assists with college forms and technology use, and provides general information and referrals regarding student services.

Duties and Tasks:Screen students for advisors and other staff members. Serve as a key, front-line representative for the campus Provide informal supervision and on-the-job training and oversight of the student employees’ work. Assists students with college forms (e.g., change of address form, accommodations request forms, and registration forms) Assists students in the computer area with online applications, student email, course registration and reviewing and understanding holds. Uses computers and software for word processing, spreadsheets, and database management. Provides clerical assistance as assigned. Maintains a working knowledge of all student services and academic areas in order to provide general information and to make appropriate referrals.
Special Assignments | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications | Required KSAs: Good written and oral communication skills to ensure effective communication of information in a busy environment Ability to solve problems, answer complex questions, interpret and communicate college policies and procedures; work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume and confidential environment Knowledge of applicable computer software/programs to work projects.
