Student Employment Manager Full Description

Job Summary
UConn Recreation seeks a Student Employment Manager to implement its student employment HR program, overseeing recruitment and retention of student personnel, bi-weekly payroll compliance, employee training and education, workplace policy, employee workflow and database management, and performance review. This position also supports professional staff searches and HR administration, and promotes a welcoming and inclusive culture centered on student employee development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implements the student employment HR program for UConn Recreation
  • Responsible for recruitment efforts to ensure required personnel levels are met
  • Manages periodic recruitment initiatives, including scheduling and supervising a hiring team of 10+ students, reviewing applications, conducting intake interviews, and coordinating with UConn Rec Professional Staff
  • Collects and catalogues applications and communicates with applicants
  • Assists with the development of onboarding materials and training, revising them annually
  • Maintains the online employee training environment and verifies completion
  • Manages bi-weekly payroll and time-keeping approval
  • Maintains an informational database, provides reports, and assists with HR reporting
  • Processes new-employee payroll, ensuring compliance and coordinating with the university Payroll department
  • Coordinates annual student performance appraisals
  • Maintains staff uniform inventory
  • Serves as lead for HR matters related to professional staff searches and special payroll agreements
  • Assists with staff appreciation and incentive initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • One or more year(s) of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience in HR operations
  • Proficiency with Fusion, Connect2Concepts, SubItUp, and PeopleSoft
  • Proficiency with Core-CT, PageUp, and HireRight

Appointment Terms
This is a full-time, permanent position offering a competitive salary and full benefits package, including employee and dependent tuition waivers. The position is included in the UCPEA collective bargaining unit.
