Student Engagement Specialist Full Description

Are you interested in supporting the operations and engagement on campus? If so, UAA is currently looking to recruit a student worker in the position of Student Engagement Specialist, and we encourage you to apply!

The Student Engagement Specialist at the University of Alaska serves as a peer leader within Student Engagement, working specifically to support the operations and engagement opportunities on campus. This position serves as the first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and guests visiting the Student Union Suite. This position provides exceptional customer service, supports daily office operations, assists with student engagement initiatives, and helps connect students to involvement opportunities and campus resources. The Student Engagement Specialist helps create a welcoming and student-centered environment that promotes engagement, belonging, and student success.

This position is in-person and is eligible to work up to 20 hours per week. This schedule may occasionally include evenings and weekends. This position will report to the Executive Director of Student Engagement.

To thrive in this role the Student Engagement Specialist should have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, they should have strong verbal and written communication abilities. They should also be able to maintain professionalism and confidentiality. Having strong organizational skills and attention to detail will be helpful as well. Additionally the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities is required. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other common office technologies will be needed. They should also be able to work independently and collaboratively.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:

1. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment or
a. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters;

2. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.

3. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.

4. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

Position Details:

This position is a Student Assistant 2 position working about 20 hours/week during the academic year. The pay is $15.26/hr.

This position is open to undergraduate students only.
