This role is ideal for someone interested in and excited about learning marketing within arts administration, with opportunities to build skills equally across social media, graphic design, and cross-department marketing coordination. The position calls for someone who is proactive in thinking of ways to promote shows weeks in advance to build excitement for productions across the dance, music, and theatre departments. Marketing skills will be taught, so we’re looking for someone with strong verbal and written communication skills, a deep understanding of social media, graphic design capabilities, a naturally social personality, and an open-minded, positive, and proactive approach to problem-solving.
Responsibilities
Social Media:
  • Ideating, filming, editing, caption writing, and posting of social media content for Chapman’s music, theatre, and dance departments, ensuring it aligns with CoPA’s messaging and branding.
  • Stay current with social media trends and frequently suggest innovative ideas for CoPA to authentically engage with trending topics or formats that can appropriately represent the university.
  • Focus on vertical video content, ensuring strong editing skills for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and similar formats.
  • Post content across multiple platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Facebook, including writing captions that are succinct, accurate, error-free, and engaging.
  • Help coordinate content types such as Instagram story takeovers, “Day in the Life” videos, “Get Ready with Me” videos, and more.

Graphic Design:
  • Prepare the print and digital collateral for the Dance, Music, and Theatre departments, including:
  • Design artwork to promote CoPA academic performances, drawing on existing imagery and crafting simple yet compelling horizontal designs for rotating TV screens on campus, with pertinent information for upcoming shows.
  • Implement design edits and organize electronic files according to department protocols.
  • Design other digital and print materials, potentially including event flyers, posters, brochures, direct mail pieces, and other promotional materials.
  • Design and assist in printing posters and other promotional signage, as needed.

Marketing Coordination:
  • Assist in creating and coordinating marketing materials for CoPA events and recruitment, focusing on CoPA’s activities, student life, alumni, faculty projects, upcoming events, community energy, and other relevant initiatives.
  • Manage the digital signage (TV screens around campus) graphic production timeline, ensuring the marketing team stays on track to promote shows in advance of opening night, and providing timely reminders of upcoming deadlines to the Communication & Marketing Specialist.
  • Assist in maintaining CoPA’s event listings with accurate information and imagery across Chapman’s online event directories.
  • Submit information for weekly University communications.
  • Collaborate with the Communication & Marketing Specialist to ensure content aligns with broader CoPA marketing strategies and objectives.
  • Other marketing support activities as assigned.

Blogs/Writing:
  • Contribute to CoPA blogs, including writing, soliciting quotes and imagery, minor copyediting, and uploading to the CoPA website.
Required Qualifications
  • Must understand the nuanced features of major social platforms, particularly Instagram and TikTok, with the ability to capture, edit, and finalize content quickly and craft compelling, accurate captions, with apps like CapCut, Canva, Adobe Express, or comparable tools.
  • Intermediate graphic design experience for designing promotional materials for CoPA shows.
  • Competent writing skills with the ability to contribute written blog content for CoPA – copy editing support and guidance will be provided.
  • Naturally social and enthusiastic with a lively personality – comfortable approaching and connecting with new people to create content.
  • Takes initiative connecting with peers and faculty across all three departments (music, theatre, dance) to source content ideas, collaborate, and film as needed.
  • Self-starter who anticipates trend opportunities and quickly brings them to life, without waiting for direction.
  • Proficient in Canva and Google Suite, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to meet deadlines and follow up.
  • Open-minded, positive, and proactive attitude to problem-solving.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to support operations and processes within CoPA.
Desired Qualifications
  • Interested and excited about learning performing arts marketing!
  • Proactive in thinking of ways to promote shows, weeks in advance, to drum up buzz about productions.
  • Experience creating and managing engaging social media content for a club, organization, or personal brand, with content tailored to each platform’s style and audience and clear calls to action.
  • Strong graphic design experience, particularly in promotional posters and visuals for the arts.
  • Proficient in writing and proofreading with a strong eye for clear and consistent page layout design.
  • Knowledge of digital document accessibility requirements and setup.
