Pay Information  | Range 16 ($5,451.00) per month based on the current Classified salary schedule. New employees will begin on Step K ($5,451.00). Step placement is non-negotiable. Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA. This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime). Applications are currently being accepted for Student Services Assistant in the Counseling department, located at San Diego Mesa College. Hours are: Position 1: Monday – Thursday 7:30am – 5:00pm and Friday 7:30am – 11:30am, Position 2: Monday – Thursday 9:00am – 6:00pm and Friday 9:00am – 1:00pm. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department’s needs.

Major Responsibilities:
Assist and support the General Counseling office and its Student Success Programs. Schedule student appointments for General Counseling and ensure that students are fully prepared for their session to optimize the student’s appointment time. Assist the coordination of student Success Programs and Student Equity components including orientation, follow-up services, and learning communities (PUENTE, KAPWA, UMOJA). Work with colleagues, students, and counseling faculty to ensure daily coverage and operations of the department are taken care of. Utilize campus systems such as SARS and Campus Solutions for record keeping, scheduling, and database management. Provide work direction and training to colleagues and faculty. Support with coordination of campus events and information sessions through planning, scheduling, and preparation of necessary materials. Compile data and reports suited for General Counseling purposes.

Desired Qualifications  | Knowledge: District and college academic policies and procedures. Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, including use of computer hardware and software. Applicable sections of California Education Code. District organization, operations, policies, and objectives. English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. 

Skills and Abilities: Interpret and apply academic policies and procedures within a higher education setting. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Perform technical duties of complex difficulty in assigned student services areas. Update files and records on-line. Meet schedules and timelines. Plan and organize work. Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of increasingly responsible experience in a college or District-level student services office involving interpretation and application of rules and regulations.

Foreign Degree:  | Applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, INC.
