General Description | Responsible for coordinating opportunities for leadership development. Encourages the development of student groups and co-curricular student engagement programs via social student activities, civic engagement, leadership development, student conferences, and cultural events. The Generalist needs to be well versed in all student service areas of the college. Assists in developing programs to address student retention goals and student workshops. Assists in fostering an environment that supports and encourages graduation. The Generalist establishes and assesses measurable student learning outcomes, program goals, and objectives
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Advises all registered Club/Organizations and their advisors.
• Assists in the evaluation of Club/Organization student leaders and advisors.
• Trains and manages advisors that work with student organizations and clubs.
• Assists with and monitors the annual College Life budget.
• Provides training, leadership development and civic engagement of club leaders and contributes to a thriving and engaging student life.
• Demonstrates ability to envision, plan and follow through with trending student development theories, ideas, activities, training and programming.
• Conducts leadership seminars, training, workshops and campus-wide events for students, and student groups and organizations.
• Provides support, and direction to student groups, organizations and advisors through leadership, organizational and resource development.
• Plans, implements and evaluates co-curricular student engagement activities which provide a welcoming campus environment, and which supports student recruitment, retention and the successful achievement of academic and career goals. Oversees and assists in developing activities, events and programs that satisfy the needs of a diverse student population which are designed for the social, cultural and instructional development of students.
• Well versed in all student service areas of the college.
• Maintains statistical reports, surveys and other records to assess accomplishments, appropriate student learning outcomes, and departmental needs.
• Compiles and analyzes data related to student participation and program evaluation; develop organizational work processes which facilitate attainment of established program goals and objectives.
• Prepares administrative reports for College Life events, programs and accomplishments.
• Provides assistance with major college-wide events such as Commencement and New Student Orientations.
• Assists with planning and implementation of fall and spring “Week of Welcome” events on all campuses.
• Assists with the planning and implementation of the College Life Awards at the end of each spring semester.
• Coordinates with College Life Team and Dean of Students area for all campus events. Assists with the development of marketing strategies on various social media platforms for all campus calendared events.
• Assists in preparing effective promotional and informational publications and materials.
• Consults with the appropriate departments to resolve problems or policy concerns evolving from within the sections of the program or unit supervised.
• Uses knowledge and experience in designing programs and services that are based in current research on student engagement in relation to learning and development. Oversees and assists in developing activities, events and programs designed for the social, cultural and instructional development of students.
• Develops goals and objectives; collects appropriate data; and completes assessments of results assigned; recommends modifications to existing services based on outcomes.
• Provides data on area usage and materials needed for the unit budget.
• Performs related responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or designee
Education Requirements | Bachelor’s Degree in related field required.
Experience | Two (2) years of experience in college Student Development/Affairs preferred.
Competencies and Skills Required
• Interpersonal, organization and communication skills required.
• Proficiency with MS office products including Excel and Access and web page development and maintenance.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with a diverse external community and a diverse campus community.
• Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• Some travel required.
Salary | $51,184

Terms of Employment | Full Time. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Frequent evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
